Rogue: I already linekd to Neuroticalyl YOurs, but thanks fr linking again, I love that cartoon.
I write poems, but they're not all abotu darkness and shit, I tend to have to refrain from using words like death and darkness, they always try to push themselves out, but I always sit them down and explain to them that I don't want them in my poetry. I prefer to use clever Metaphors and stuff. http://wetflameg.deviantart.com/ I only have 2 up right now though, I have happier ones and one or two more on my livejournal (http://www.livejournal.com/~wetflame) |
Must add my two cents...
Cent one: Its funny how people who call themselves Goths probably don't know who the Goths really were. During the fall of the Roman Empire the Goths were one of the northern European barbarian tribes that raided the empire. Goths probably wore leather armor and burned villages down. Cent two: Gothic is a style of cathedral architecture built in the middle ages. They characteristically had flying buttresses, rib vaulting and pointed arches, and lots of windows to let light into the building. So gothic people should be either plundering the land or building really big churches. |
I'm not a goth, but so many people think I am and to be honest, it sucks. And how do they reach their decision? Its because i have long hair and pale skin because im anaemic (or however the hell ya spell it). I'm not a social stereotype, I do what I like and dress as I like. If I want to wear black - that doesnt make me a goth. I find it pretty shallow that people judge so damn often by appearance alone - thing is most people don't stop and look at themselves before judging any stereotype, because people who've insulted me, fall into far worse catagories than 'Goth' I can tell you.

Actually, Wetflame, I think that it's more like 99.999999999999999999%
It'd be more helpful if somebody knew why they did choose to call themselves "goth." |
I always wanted to now Why they lost the full name, Visigoth. Those were the ones raiding rome. Gothic architecture is as you described. but there was also Gothic armor. and Gothic story telling. I always felt goth culture had more to do with Wuthering Heights than Barbarians, Notre Dame, and Plate Armor.

It's more relating to the Architecture. I actually know the exact origins of the name.
Original in the early 80s/late 70s a new style of punk rock came out, it had a warped sound that frowning critics called "Gothic", meaning it was simply awful, barbaric. This music evolved and the people who grew up following often got called Goths as a sort of spit in the face back at the critics. That's where the term came from. |
There's these goths at my school, and they are WAAAY too into it.
I mean, they're afraid...OF WOOD! And crosses, and silver. Yesterday, they were sitting in the library with a pentacle drawn onto a peice of paper and chanting, then saying stuff like, "I can feel the dark powers rising!" and "The darkness is so beautiful." Then they wanted a human skull to stab with a ceremonial dagger. They were doing their chantings...RIGHT BY THE HOLY BIBLE! Yes. It's a catholic school, and it all jsut seemed to defeat itself. The librarian actually went and dropped a silver cross onto their pentacle for fun, and they started shrieking and trying to get away. They fell that low....is that pitiful or is that pitiful? |
Sad, just sad. DO they indulge in blood-letting as well?
|
in High school I new guy who had developed a taste for human blood, he wasn't a goth though. He also prefered his blood. He was just a masochist I believe. Great artist though.
