It isn't imperitive, punk. But alright, I'll tell you. Basically goes like this... I haven't played in awhile (though I just started a new game) so I might forget some minor bits.
First there's this 50 year war between ivalice and a neighboring kingdom, but the royal family turns it's back on the soldiers after the war, and so they begin plotting rebellion after being left out on the street. Well, while they begin their rebellion your character, Ramza, and his best friend, Delita are in school. Now Delita isn't a noble, but Ramza is... he just gets to act like one because of Ramza's family. So you meet this guy named Algus, and the rebels capture Delita's sister from Ramza's home. Algus splits off to go with the main forces fighting the rebels while you and delita go to rescue his sister. Well when you get there, one of the Rebels is using her as a human shield, and Algus shoots her... because she's just a commoner, and goes off on this stint about how all commoners are good for is being used, and how Ramza has been using Delita. Well, you defeat Algus and Delita goes to get his sister's body, but one of the rebels lights all the black powder and it goes boom, presumably killing delita. Story goes 10 years later Delita kidnaps princess Ovelia... and the royal king and queen are already dead (or out of power somehow) so princess ovelia and her little brother, orinas, are the two heirs to the throne which should both come to power. And there are two noble houses, Larg and Goltana, who each want to take control of the country until the heirs are old enough. There is a tenative peace, between the two, however, until Delita, under orders from th... you know what, it's too damn complicated and I'm tired, someone else can finish it up. |

Chapter 2 Princess Ovelia is captured by Delita, and Ramza, Agrias, and Gafgarion chase after him. At a waterfall, they catch up, Delita, was "protecting" the princess from assassins. Gafgarion joins in the fight to kill Ovelia, and Ramza teams up with Delita. They head south, rescuing an engineer named Mustadio, who has a magic stone called a "Zodiac Stone". Ramza and friends head south to see the Cardinal, who promises to protect Ovelia and Agrias while Ramza and Mustadio take care of some business in the machine city of Grog. Once there, they rescue Mustadio's father, only to return and find the princess captured, and Agrias fighting a losing battle. After winning, Agrias agrees to join Ramza and Co. to get Ovelia back. The assassins are also interested in the Zodiac Stone the Mustadio carries. Ramza chases Gafgarion out to Lionel castle, where they fight the Cardinal/Zodiac Monster. End Chapter 2. |
it should be noted at this point that Mustadio is the pimp. I haven't played this game in a very long time. Doesn't the church kidnap Ramza's sister after they find out that he has a few zodiac stones?

I don't remember why Alma was kidnapped, but she was for a purpose revealed in chapter 4 (I believe).
Dante, here's a link to a full script of the game, including every cutscene and non-random encounter battle, courtesy of Tsogtsaihan Baatar of GameFAQS.com. If you want to know more about the game without playing it yourself, that's the place to go to. |
I would just like to add that when you get Orlandu (Olan dad) in chapter for USE HIM!!! He is the best holy knight ever. I never understood the story, I just kept moving to the red dots

Yeah, I think the original FFT had one of the most convoluted plots ever. I was about halfway through Chapter 3 I think (I had just fought through the church from the start fo the game and gotten that holy book you need) and just sort of stopped, but I had no clue what was going on when I stopped playing. Maybe it all sorts itself out later.

Nope, it just gets more confusing. The last boss seems it's thrown in there just for the heck of it and to give an excuse to kidnap Alma. But, yeah, it just kinda goes downhill from there. I do remember 1 thing, that one battle outside the one church near the top of the map with the old guy on top (sorry, haven't played in a while). Anyway, he had like 10 lackies surrounding the building, my ninja/lancer jumped up to the top in two leaps and killed the old guy with his ninja swords. The whole battle lasted about 10 seconds.

Anyway... everything is actually explained throughout. The book from the church reads through to explain that St. Ajora was anything but a saint. He was actually a normal man who hated combat and worked as a spy, that is why he was hung at golgorand. The zodiac stones, on the other hand, contained the souls of demons the zodiac braves... who became demons through their deaths or merged with demons, something along those lines. Thus the stones would merge with whoever owned them, giving flesh to the demons. Each stone, however, could only be 'used'/merged with by a very few people, and it happens that the stone which Ajora used was the most difficult to find a host for. Ramza's sister just so happened to be that host. The last boss is the spirit from within the zodiac stone. So there you go. |
