I just bought AO for christmas!
As i was pondering over what to buy for christmas, my eyes saw the old AO game shortcut on my dekstop.. -wow, i thought, thats an old game! Haven't played that one for awhile!- And I played it for some days (for free) and was shortly after convinced that graphics were crap. Then my mind wandered over to WoW... So I asked alot of people in AO about buying WoW, and everybody said it was crap, a child game, too easy, booring, to few lvls, to expensive! and so on...
So i bought AO, and all the expansions! :-) And you know what? I tested WoW on my friends comp for about a week (before buying AO), and I agree with the people in AO. WoW is crap compared to AO. If any of you guys in this forum play AO, let me know, and we can do some team missions! :-D |
For those of us (like say....me) who have no clue what AO is, would you mind describing it more or....I don't know....say what AO means?

I think it might be Anarchy Online, and yes, I think it's better to use the full name of something before using the acronym.
I used to play Anarchy Online... I thought it was great, as far a Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games, or MMORPG (and my limited experience of them) go. I really liked the backstory and setting, above all, and how it related to the game mechanics, altough the story might have jumped the shark with the inclusion of a straight up "alien" invasion. |
After racking my brain, the only MMORPG that had "A" and "O" in it was Anarchy Online.
[EDIT]: Darn you, Archbio, and your speedier typing skills! |
Did anyone else think that game screamed "Dune ripoff" while reading the Wiki. Sounds interesting too bad I'm cashless for some time now. Also, might want to stay away from game bashing. Some people are very very attached to their MMORPGs and fights have broken out over less.
Also, it's a good thing you actually tried WoW first. It wouldn't have been very smart to just go buy what the people in another MMORPG say about the competition. Usually they only play one and they pick the one they like so it's hard to get the good points of the other side. |
Personally I think if you post about something and use abbriviations, you should atleast once use its full name.

First its set on a desert planet that is absolutely worthless except for one certain mineral. This mineral just happens to be the most valuable mineral in exsistance.
Second, there are two factions fighting for control. One seems to be a large overbearing company, something akin to the spice mining company that had control in dune. The other is described as a rebel working class which seems a lot like the natives in Dune. Third, the special mineral has properties that allow it to produce magic like effects in living things and through technology. The Wiki article even said that it found its way to the DNA of some things. Fourth, there is the near constant state of war going on. Both between the coperations and the rebels and between rival coperations. All that is missing is giant worms and sonic weapons. |

I don't really remember corporative powers being even enough to the fore of the Dune narrative to be villains. Rubi-Ka is only partially (and, I think, originally) arid. The desert aspect isn't emphasized in the same way. Maybe the Wiki gives the wrong impression, especially since it probably doesn't feature most of the details and deeper setting elements that clearly set both worlds apart. |
