Question about Class Changes
Reading through the archives, I can't find any instance of anyone telling the LWs that they're due for a class change. The first utterance of the phrase in the comic, as far as I can tell, is in #585 when BM says he's gonna get two class changes. Prior to that:
-Sarda makes them go to Cardia for undisclosed reasons. -Bahamut tells the "Enlightened Warriors" to get the dire rat's tail in a quest for identity and "untold power". -They meet up with the Other Warriors, and Black Mage brings up class changes out of nowhere. I would have cited all this as evidence that they're not in fact getting a class change, except for the fact that Brian and everyone else has repeatedly confirmed it. Have I missed something here? |
Playing the game FF1. The plot of the strip is very loosley based around the quests in this game. After the Castle of Ordeals your characters get a class change. If there was no mention of the change before, it's because Brian's probably sure that any fans are aware of the game by now. If the sudden mention seems abrupt, it's probably 'cos Brian wanted to get the plot moving.
Here endeth the lesson. But will the Warriors actually qualify for a class change? The Ordeals taught them nothing and Thief didn't actually do his. And after it, what carrot will Sarda have left to dangle in their faces? |

Infinitely wise immortal omnimages tend to be so. |
It'll take one hell of a stick to make them face Chaos, that's for sure.
But at the same time, it may be for the best if you've never played the game. because we're well past the half-way point, especially since we have, so far, bypassed Titan. There's only Kraken and Tiamat left before Chaos... |
I see. Yeah, I've played FF1 and I remember the class change part... I just felt like it would have been nifty if the LWs had gone through all this, only to have Bahamut say "Class change? I never said anything like that."
|
Perhaps Bahamut WAS a lowly Hobo Dragon and Rat Tail Soup instigated his own class change to God-King! And now, he passes the gift on to the warriors. or not. There could be magic in them tails...

whoops, that was my point! must've mangled my post somehow. it's might be for the best if you don't know that (highlight for SPOILER) there's only three dungeons left in the story. unlikely that 8BT'll move at the same pace

I think an interesting concept to consider while talking about the class change is what the LWs expect to gain
I think its obvious for BM. He gets the ultima spell or at least the ability to cast more than 1 hadoken a day. Theif would be much quicker and stealthier. If anyone else has ideas, that would be good |
Remember that the LWs are not the only ones who were after the Dire Rat's tail. The other band of warriors were after them as well, and RM did speak to them about that. I presume that somewhere off camera RM spoke to the others about a class change.
