science fiction rp idea
 

My idea for a RP is one that I’ve had for a while, but never got around to testing. I wasn’t sure if anyone would like to be a part of it, so instead of making a fool of myself, I thought of putting this section to good use. Anyways, pointless introduction aside, my idea is in a science fiction setting, obviously in the near future.

History so Far:

Year 2029
The Earth has been united under one nation, and renamed the Grand Union. Seeking a solution to help with the problem of overpopulation, scientists found ways to terra-form moons and the nearest possible planet, Mars. Colonization has begun on the newly formed ecosystems, and a small system of government has started, under the watch of the Union. Although part of the Union by title, Mars, and the other colonies, are nationally different from the Union and are treated with large disrespect by the Grand Army.

A group of rebels, calling themselves the Liberators, began small revolts against the Union. Although many of their attempts at disturbance and terrorism failed, the ones that did succeed impacted enough citizens of the colonies for their opinions to be changed. One event of significance was one that revealed a secret experiment of the Union. A Liberator known as Kor, led a small group into a concealed military base on Mars. Kor, having just previously quit the military before joining the Liberators, knew the terrible secrets that went on there. Some of the children, who had been thought missing, or dead, were at that base being tortured and experimented on. The crops that the military sent out to villages were being tampered with, in order to make certain changes in a body, such as malnutrition, or strange abnormalities that caused many to become permanently disabled. Kor, and several of the captured children, returned to the colonies and told stories of what happened in the military bunker. Soon, distrust in the army began to grow…

Year 2031

The Liberator leader Sophia begins a revolution and declares Mars independent from the Union. The population on Mars has nearly tripled in the past year, and popularity for the Grand Union on the planet has weakened. The Liberator’s nearly controlled most of the planet’s citizens. Within months of declaring themselves an independent nation, the Liberators win Mars for themselves. Having defeated the Union, they started their own system of government. Sophia was declared minister, until guidelines could be written down.

However, the Liberators were still at war with the Union…

Year 2034

Sophia is assassinated. The Liberators mourn for her death, and as such fight harder in the war. Kor is anointed as the new minister of the Liberation.



Year 2040
After dragging on for so many years, the Union finally decides to form an alliance with the Liberators. Not wishing to fight anymore, and slowly running out on moral, the Liberators agree, and a decision is met by Minister Kor, and by Ambassador Tiar of Earth. In summarization of the treaty, the Union will stay out of Liberator affairs, so long as the Liberators remain to their own. It is simple, and tensions are still high as the peace treaty is signed, however, the fighting has stopped.



And that’s the non-involvement portion of the RP.

I wanted to work off of this and see who’d be interested in maybe developing this into something more.

Question the first: What would PC characters have to do in this RP?

Current events: The current year is 2042. The treaty has been effect for two years, and on the surface, everything appears fine. On the news citizens on planet Earth hear about the death of Kor, the Minister of Mars. They assume that it is just old age, but few know of the assassin sent. Even fewer know of the death of few key members in Congress who were against starting another war against the Rebel cause.

On Mars they grieve over the death of their leader who brought them into times of peace. Kor's son, Ken, has sworn to get back at those who slayed his father. Taking the position of Emperor and renaming the Liberators to the (oh god, i'm scared to put it XD). Using his new found power, Emperor Ken has started a small troop of elite soldiers. (enter PC's stage left)


So, I guess to answer your question, the PC's would be an elite troop of the... well, until I come up with a good title, the "New Liberators"... and I guess they would be called the "Sons of Liberty"... I've only been thinking of this, but with no one to bounce ideas off of, I've been at a standpoint for ceartin things. So far, the "SoL" would consist of anyone that has something about them that makes them stand out... such as being a perfect shot... or extremely capable with technology... it could be as simple as having superhuman strength, to as complicated as having the ability to manipulate and rearrange molecules. Anything you can think of, so long as you back it up with some sort of story.

So... these elite soldats would track down the assassin?

Or, would they go after the high-rank people of the Grand Union?

Yes, and yes.

The equivilant of this elite group would be the "double O" program in Bond. They try to prevent any war before it starts. In this case, its the next interplanetery war that they are trying to prevent.

I may be interested.
