Well..... lets just go shut down all forums and websites now so we don't annoy anyone....

Melfice 01-09-2006 03:42 PM

OmGwTfBbQ!1! TiHs GuY sErOuS1?

Ugh, that hurt my brain... Anyway, see you in two years, I guess.
Oh, wait, I'm not American! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Seriously, I'd like to see them enforce it. There's no way to actually catch the, roughly estimated, bazilion-gazilions of spammers out there.

However, it would be nice to get rid of those BrEeZaH-sluts and AOL'ers...

MasterOfMagic 01-09-2006 03:49 PM

That's just annoying without "intent to annoy". Spam has an "intent to annoy". So, technically, AOL'ers that aren't (if possible) spam, then it isn't bad. But hey, I won't go ruining your fun.

j00 is teh suk 4 n0t relising teh r3adin stuf

Bwahaha. Beware my past self.

Also, after actually READING the post my MoM, it only half supports what I said, instead of not supporting it at all XD

Edit: I didn't have to think. That is almost EXACTLY something I would've said before I joined this forum. It's like the forum remolded my typing. I've always had to potential, but never found it until now. NPF is teh sh!t. XD
I would have said j00, suk, 4, and teh(just a typo, I used to type WAY too fast.)

MasterOfMagic 01-09-2006 09:53 PM

Oh, I read it. I got the "intent to annoy" part. But you can't tell me there's no intent to annoy when you do it that bad. I mean...I was having to WORK to get it to look like that.

I sorta forgot about it with the edit. But, meh.

jewish demon 01-09-2006 10:03 PM

So bush made it illegal to spam? Another thing only a monkey could do, done by him.

Major Blood 01-09-2006 10:07 PM

Seriously, dosen't Bush have better things to do(like bombing other countries) than to try to govern the way people communicate over the internet?

There's still countries left for him to bomb? I thought he got them all.

Adghar 01-09-2006 10:16 PM

Well, I always thought of Bush as the guy who drove around in a tank shootin' stuff, just signing away any documents given to him so he could continue shootin' stuff.

PraetorZorak 01-09-2006 11:11 PM

Actually, If you read the actual bill, it banned the use of the internet to "annoy" a person.

I shit you not.

Annoy a person? A. isn't that very subjective? B. isn't that what the internet is for? C. if not that, isn't that what it's used for? D. Isn't that almost impossible to enforce? E. Boy, I'm screwed, aren't I?

This is probably one of the stupidest things you can ever do. Trying to make a law you can't enforce only demotes you in the public eye.

Cheerful Coffin 01-09-2006 11:53 PM

Too bad being an asshole is still not only legal, but encouraged..

Loyal 01-10-2006 09:20 AM

Hey guys! It's now cool to use your real name on the interwebs when being a flaming asshole.

H34R M3!1!11 1 4/\/\ L33T F1TZG3R4LD N J00 ALL SUXX0R.

...Wait... does that mean l33t speak is now illegal? After all, "l33t f1tzg3r4ld" =/= "Lee Fitzgerald"... Hmm...

Ya gotta wonder just how they would plan to enforce it, though. There's no way WHATSOEVER to get personal info on the anonymous spammer legally, and ESPECIALLY not if they're 12-or-under (Those kids get absolute immunity from this law, since it's illegal for websites to ask personal info from folks of that age group. Lucky bastards). It's like ROM legality; Threaten all you like, but without spending a LOT of money, using illegal methods, or being psychic and able to PROVE it, you really can't do shit to the individual perpetrator...

The Champion 01-10-2006 01:51 PM

And I thought he couldn't do anything more stupid. Guess he showed me huh? What's next, a law making it so you must type EVERYTHING with perfect spelling and grammer?

neyo the king 01-10-2006 02:09 PM

Of course not! Then Mr. Bush would have to spell stuff right, which we know he can't do.

Also, crap, now I'm a criminal. America is starting to suck. Who wants to move to Japan and hang out with the robots with me?

I know there's ways to do it. You can do anything on the internet if you know how. The trick is keeping it legal.

Yes, I don't know of any specific legal definition of "annoy" and I have high doubts that the lawyers or judges have such a definition, either.

Quote:

B. isn't that what the internet is for?
Not anymore.

Quote:

C. if not that, isn't that what it's used for?
Apparently it is a government mind-control device.

Quote:

D. Isn't that almost impossible to enforce?
Yes.

Quote:

E. Boy, I'm screwed, aren't I?
Not really (see above). I find it unlikely that anyone would take you to court if you called them a n00b h4x0r. And even if they did, I doubt they'd win the case

Plus, all you have to do is change the way you annoy. The law only bans ANONYMOUSLY annoying someone. Theoretically, I could call you a stupid smacktard, as long as I tell you that my name is Jason. So now you are annoyed, but you don't have a legal case against me.

By the way, please don't take me to court. I am not calling you a stupid smacktard. That was just hypothetical. Of course, my name is Jason, so you can go screw yourself either way.

Buddha Fett 01-11-2006 12:21 PM

Bush just entered a new, never-before-heard-of level of idiocy... how do you arrest people for being annoying? If you could, the press would've been gone a long time ago.

HAH! can't arrest me Bush for the idiocy comment... I'm not anonymous, the name's Seth.

Also, Bush would've also been gone. This is the most impossible law ever. There's no way to enforce it... at all.

(Sad thing is my name IS Anonymous! :p) Just kidding, I'm Dave.

I was on AIM with the owner of the website. She was treating my amiably. She is reputable. She's probably done the whole thing with other people too. I'm pretty sure it's legal. Maybe I'll have to go ask her.

Mike McC 01-11-2006 03:09 PM

Actually, e-mail spam was not the target of this bill. The law was set up under some other law which helps deter things like stalking and sexual harrasment.... it's supposed to work under the same principle as harrasing anonymous phone calls. However, it is very vaugely worded. The only way it got oassed because it was tacked onto a bill everyone that was pretty much must-pass.

Please note, under the conditions of the bill, it is only anonymous annoyances that are illegal. If you include your name, it's fine.

However, later in the article, it brings up how this is infeasible. If anyone is charged using this law, they can simply challenge it in the courts, as it is a violation of the first amendment.

Yakubyougami 01-11-2006 03:15 PM

Spammers should learn it's not the law they should be afraid of.
