Who needs all these humans, anyway?

I mean Chobits was sort of cute and all and all but I didn't think Japan actually meant it.

I smell a world revolution of robots against humans taking place in the States and Europe, but living in peace with the Japanese.

Fifthfiend 01-09-2006 09:07 PM

What I want to know is will the robots be servants for the Japanese, or with the Japanese be pets for the robots?

And will either of them be able to tell the difference?

... And really I think the war will end up being between the American Kyll-Mo-Deth 3000 bots and the cute, lovable Japanese Hugmematics that unite in defense of their beloved humans and triumph over evil with the power of their cuddliness.

Carebears nothing. I mean who didn't love/get utterly creeped out by the Burbles?

Speaking of robot wars, after seeing all of those movies, would people actually make a learning robot? It just seems stupid. Although I can see humanity being destroyed by it's own creations... We ARE stupid like that.

Did anyone else pick up the not-so-subtle conservative text there?

Calling Japan isolationists. Refusing to receive more cheap labor to dillute the job pool that is (supposedly) rapidly draining. That doesn't make much sense, now does it?

Sorry, but I just want to see if anyone else feels this way. Or not. This is off-topic after all.

elitist bastards...

eh heh ^_^;;

I want a powered robot suit though, of course I'd use it to fight crime instead of carry groceries though.

No, no, I mean, the Economist has always set the gold standard for coverage of the personal biases of people who write for the Economist.

But if there is one thing that transcends ideologies it is wacky Japanese robots, and the wacky Japanese who love them.

My favorite part of the article was:
Quote:

But the consensus among Japanese is that visions of a future in which immigrant workers live harmoniously and unobtrusively in Japan are pure fancy. Making humanoid robots is clearly the simple and practical way to go.
You can almost TASTE the sarcasm.
