Blauugh! Jimmy Doyle Does It Again
http://www.wisconsinconcealedcarry.c...-override.html
THE WISCONSIN CCW VETO OVERRIDE FAILED! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I HATE YOU DEMOCRATIC GOVERNORS, I HATE YOU, I HATE YOU! With that buffoon in office, Wisconsin will be the only state with a total CCW ban in a couple of years, as Nebraska and Kansas are pushing CCW legislation right now. There are 37 states that issue... what the hell is wrong with you Jimmy? You're in the minority! Democrats are supposed to squeal like little girls and get in line when outnumbered! |
Is there a mighty need to carry concealed weapons around in Wisconsin? Because the whole thing strikes me as a non-issue. Granted, were there some sort of threat to everyone's personal stores of cheese or something, then I could see the benefits of carrying a piece wherever you go, but aside from that it seems like nothing more than an excuse to compensate for insecurities. I know, I know, second amendment and all that, but what are the pros and cons of the issue other than just being a political pissing contest?
I'm not from Wisconsin and have never been, so if you could fill us in on what's at stake here I, for one, would greatly appreciate it. |
In my opinion, TO ME, this is way more than just a pissing contest. There is nothing wrong with compensating for an insecurity if it's serious.
Because my family has been robbed before. In terms of statistics, well, that's anybody's guess. Kellerman vs Kleck vs Lott vs Buddha, everyone contradicts everyone. But think about it; if you were a criminal, and you knew for a fact that someone was carrying, would you even go near them? Probably not, because my .357 Mag would just lurve to meet you. Also, you are allowed to carry OPENLY in Wisconsin in most areas. (Restricted pretty heavily in urban areas though, no pre-emption.) Doesn't that seem kind of... dumb? At the very least, they should allow CCW. Seeing someone carrying a .500 S&W X-frame openly can be kind of... disconcerting. Let them hide them; out of sight, out of mind, huzzah. Will the crime rates fall? I am not going to speculate. Gun control advocates say OMG!!! NOES! and gun rights say OMG!!! YESZ! But I think people should at least be given the chance, like the majority of the nation's people are now. |
Understandable, and I feel you about your family having been robbed before. My mother's currently in the process of getting something shiny and hurt-making for the psycho stalker that left her wheelchair bound and likely to die within the next handful of years because he's apparently found her again and the cops are just now deciding to take her seriously about it about a decade later.
So yeah, I can see how guns can come in handy. But on the other hand, I see absolutely no difference between carrying a gun openly or concealed, and as far as the Wisco elected officials are ultimately concerned, it seems to be a debate on Republicans having to be on one side of the issue and Democrats being on the other and each party just trying to win for the sake of winning (which is predominantly why I don't associate with either). Still, I'm glad to see that you do seem to have a more personal stake in this issue other than just being some gun nut worried that if we don't have our guns, then the King of England can just walk into our house and do whatever he pleases. Go you. |

But actually I'm just here to remind you to present your points in a calm and rational manner. Rarely do we have to say this after the first post. Also, please choose a more descriptive thread title. |
Actually, the only people concealed carry laws hurt are the criminals.
Disregarding 'accidentally slipping and accidentally firing your concealed handgun into your leg or the leg of a companion' incidents, the people who are carrying the guns have no intention of using them for crime. In fact, regardless of the 'restrictions' you put on guns, if a criminal intends to use one, they will. There have been many-a-story of situations in which a gun should have been used but laws prevented the use of them, leading to family deaths (there's a famous example of a woman who's part of some gun commission whose parents were killed by a psycho who crashed his car through a restaurant and started killing everyone there--had she had her gun on her, she could have at the very least disabled the man, but due to concealed carry restrictions, it was in her car). And this is coming from someone who never wants to have to use a gun in their life. |
Okay, so you have a gun. A good one. But can you use it?
Guns are only good for self-protecting if the user is skilled in shooting. There's more to it than just pulling the trigger. If you're a happy-go-lucky idiot who has a gun because shooting small animals in the backyard is fun, chances are that a possible robber will punch you in the face, steal your gun and point it at you. |
From what I understand, you have to get certification to be allowed to carry a gun, or even own one in many states. There are tests involved.
This still strikes me as one of those "who gives a crap" issues. Not that I don't find humor in the idea that hiding your gun and then brandishing it openly are both against the law in many places, but it ultimately just strikes me as the stupidest gun control issue out there. Honestly, to me it seems like aassault weapons bans are where the moneys at as far as policial debates go. Remember when that mattered, and Democrats were totally for it and it passed, and how now it just sort of died and nobody cared because it expired in the hayday of the "War on Terror" and Bush didn't renew it and we all loved him then because we got attacked by "freedom haters" and had to support our leaders during a crisis? Seriously, were we retarded back then? Because I don't remember being retarded. |

OK, probably not a .357 - that whole 5 day waiting period - but rifles or shotguns easy. On a side note, for lovable Jack Thompson saying people brought guns to school for hundreds of years, that's actually true. I remember before the whole school shooting thing got big, you'd see people come into first period still in bright orange with the gun rack in their truck full and maybe a buck on their hood. They were hunting though, they weren't walkin around like gangstas yo. So if anything, maybe we should be protesting games like Deer Hunter or something - or should he be advocating them? I don't know, nevermind, I was always more into archery - natural silencer and all that. Quote:
Other than that, I agree - let people carry and let the ones who can pass screening have them concealed. I don't like guns, but I'll take a persons head off with a 12 guage if I need to protect my family or friends. I was always of the mind that restricting guns means the people who will get them legally won't have them when the people who get them illegally show up. |
The only problem I have is it doesn't make much of a distinction to me whether someone walks around with a gun out in hand or if someone has it concealed - consciously I'd probably avoid the former more, especially if I intended to commit a criminal act against them - than the latter, seeing as theorethical criminal me is not smart enough to consider whether someone is secretly packing heat or not.
I'm against guns in general, I think human stupidity + guns = needless deaths far more than they protect individuals - which is why I don't own one and generally don't lounge around when people are holding one near me - however I don't care if people who pass testing own one. I think while the laws should allow for gun ownership for people that the second amendment shouldn't really exist in the manner it does, because modren life isn't reflective of the spirit that amendment was based upon. |
