Monster Movies

Back again to piss you off and discuss the credibility of the Horror genre. Let's discuss Monster movies. Not slasher movies and not Giant monster (kaiju) movies which hold a special place in my heart. But monster movies, if you need an example just look at all of the "Sci-Fi channel original" movies.

The plot for every one.
Monser gets created/unleashed/awoken from a thousand year slumber.
is unleashed on a sleepy small town/lake/ancient ruins/secret military facility/
shake and serve with ice or pepper.
What would you do in this situation?

Hm... Well I guess you have somewhat of a point. Ok... what about something like... Hm... I keep thinking about Ringu.. but thats not exactly moster related... How about... damn you really are right, I can't think about anymovies with out the cheesy special effects and other things like that.

Underworld? That didn't exactly involve creating a monster except for the first vampire and lycan. Then there was the whole unleashing of the first Lycan in Evolution, but I don't think the Underworld movies follow these exact plotlines.

Have you ever heard of a movie called Night of the Lepus? I think that is a great example of monster movies.

I never took the genre seriously anyway, it is more of a thing that one watches with friends while making fun of the stupid mistakes the people make in these movies.

For example:
Young stereotypical teenage guy: 'I know there is a monster brutally tearing people to shreds and feasting on the entrails, but let's go make out in the woods!'
Young stereotypical unrealistically slutty teenage girl:'OK, why not! I trust you, strong egotistical stereotypical football-type, to protect me from the the spawn of hell.'

I actually like them, the same way I like it's sister genres, slasher and kaiju. I love them for the cheesiness. But back on topic. There is a monster running loose somewhere you are, you can't really escape, WHAT DO YOU DO?!

Implement the Zombie Protection Plan. Every household should have one. :thief:

Premmy 02-06-2006 06:29 PM

Not really. Most Zombies are dumber than these monsters.Monsters ar usually more dangerous, and may or may not be invulnerable to anything the average person can throw at it. There was actually a movie abut monster movies. An old guy lived in a city that was trapped in monster movie scenario. but everyone just thought he was delusional from all his time of being in those movies. Then his grandson takes over. I can't remember the name.

Well the limited (narrower than the Grand Chasam of the Silfirox Star system) spectrum that you gave us really limited most of if not all of the possible responses for your question. How bout Silent Hill?

Buddha Fett 02-09-2006 07:36 AM

I can't remember any monster movies that didn't follow that plotline.

Ooh! Creature from the Black Lagoon!

Squishy Cheeks 02-09-2006 07:49 AM

Brotherhood of the Wolf
Jaws

Both are excellent monster movies.
