I, Robot movie?
I came out of the theater earlier today and there was a banner on the wall advertising a movie by that name.
Would this happen to be a movie based on Asimov's book by the same name, and has anyone heard anything about this? |
I'd love to see one based on the later robot novels, with Daneel, or Foundation. I loved the prelude books but the main one I found kind of boring.
|
The entire Foundation series is my favorite series of books. I also like Robots and Aliens.
And to answer Hamelin's question, yes this is a movie based on Asimov's book. YAY FOR DETECTIVE SPOONER! |
can someone explain what the book was about so i'd know what the movies about to see if i should go see it
|
It's set in the future, about a detective named Del Spooner who hates technology and is completetly paranoid about the robots that have come to assist people in everyday living. Then an important doctor that works for a robotics company is murdered and a robot is the main suspect, but that presents a problem because the "Laws of Robotics" can't be broken or else robots can take over the world. Spooner gets the case...but I'll stop there so I don't spoil anything.
The movie should be awesome. It's directed by the same guy that did Dark City, one of my favorites, and The Crow. EDIT: This is the movie plot, BASED on the 9 original short stories. |
This is very important:
Asimov's three laws of robotics: 1. A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm. 2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law. 3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law. As you can see, it's important those laws stay in effect, as otherwise we're just going to end up making the Matrix again. |
And I'm assuming that Will Smith is this Spooner guy...whats Spooner like in the books, because I'm curious to see if Smith can pull off something thats not overly funny...
|
Wow, I've never heard of this, but it sounds cool. I should go read the books and i'll probably go see the movie.
|
Will smith could be the robot.

I don't recall any character named Del Spooner showing up in any of the stories in I, Robot, or anything else by Asimov for that matter. His main detective character was named Elijah Bailey (who was also introduced in The Caves of Steel.) |
