Non-anime related Japanese music

Does anyone out there listen to japanese music that doesn't have to do with anime? I realize that is a vague question because some very popular artists have done anime music in Japan(Ayumi Hamasaki, Porno Graffiti etc.)
What genres and which artists? Are there particular songs that you liked from them?

I am a big B'z fan myself, mostly because they are the first Japanese band I heard. A Japanese exchange student introduced me to them back in 9th grade.

They aren't my favorites though, my favorite groups are GO!GO!7188(Indie) and Kick the Can Crew(J-Hip Hop)!

Haha, just funny the way you phrased it, as if the only kind of Japanese music is directly related to anime.

Yeah, I do. There's many...Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra, Change Up, Bump of Chicken, Go!Go!7188, Ken Ikeda, Susie Ibarra, Kazumi Nikaidoh, Cibo Matto, Macromantics, Limited Express (Has Gone?), Melt Banana, and much, much more.

I'm a big fan of Polysics. They're flippin' Great. I'm also a mild fan of Ayumi Hamasaki, and *embarrassed* Berryz Koubou....O_O...heh

there's also a few rocky bands, but I can't remember their names, cause I can't even understand what they're singing about to begin with. :)

Try Guitar Wolf, The High Lows, Brahman, Coco Bat, The Mad Capsule Market's, Husking Bee, P'ez, or Turtle Island. Some of them are kind of underground.

After reading this how could I NOT be interested in Sambo Mater, who are in fact quite amazing.

I probably should have worded it differently. I actually thought it sounded weird when I wrote it, but that was the only way I could think of at the time.

I am surprised someone else knows about Go!Go!7188, they are an obscure band in Japan, but I am glad I am not alone.

I like a lot of other groups too which I didn't mention, especially a lot of Hip Hop(mainstream mostly) like Rip Slyme, Ketsumeishi and such.

Did you know she had a televison show called Ayu Ready? Just thought you would like to know.

I downloaded a lot of the classical folkish type stuff.

It is very peaceful and also has a lot of flutes.

Lemme see... X Japan, Bonnie Pink, Judy and Mary, Malice Mizer, the pillows, Shiina Ringo, Dir en grey and pretty much all kinds of j-rock. Miyavi is also cool, but he's just so very weird...

I was heavily influenced by a friend of mine. >_>; Now I go looking for j-music that's not anime related every single weekend...

You seem to be a visual kei fan, that's cool, not my thing though. I just wanted to comment because over here in Germany there are a lot of visual-kei fans, it is like a little movement.
