Hate certain forums?

I'm just wondering if anyone out there, like me, used to frequent certain internet forums and doesn't now because of disrespectful people.

This is a pretty large forum with thousands of members, whose mean age is probably in the late teens. Despite the disagreements and the occasional "Otaku Son" trolls, this is the best damn forum I've ever had the pleasure of belonging too.

I recently paid a visit to a forum I was a die-hard member of for 2 years. They are still bogged down in the same petty bullshit. It's a tight group of arrogant, condescending fools who simultaneously belittle me and try to draw me in so that they don't have to cannibalize each other. It's pathetic and I'm glad I don't go there anymore.

This truly is the best forum I've ever been to. People are, by and large, respectful and thoughtful and considerate of each other. I'm using the internet less and less these days. I'm withdrawing from the online world and investing myself more completely in the real world. That said, I have always enjoyed this forum and just wanted to voice my opinion.

Anyone else feel this way? ;)

While the mods around here are a little less than jovial, I realize that the no-nonsense (at all) attitude that they've taken is very effective in keeping the crap out, and the mildly interesting in.

Worst forum I've ever been to? I'll disregard any AOL forums I may have stumbled upon... I don't know, Ctrl+alt+del has some pretty unpleasant forums...

The only other forums I frequent are the OCReMix forums, and the Questionable Content Forums.

While Questionable Content's forums are trying to reach the glory that the NPF have achieved, they don't succeed, in that there's always some jerk who thinks his indie shat is better than your indie shat, and he just won't flippin' shut up about it for pages and pages...

Meanwhile, OC ReMix's forums are generally moderated by guys who think posting 'gtfo fgt' instead of 'please stop spamming' is hilarious, despite the fact that they are relatively intelligent folk. That said, their forums are in a state of constant stagnation and rampant infection...

That is to say, their general discussion forums are about as dull as an knife with no blade, the only heavily moderated forum is the one that no one ever uses, and to top it off, they have an unmoderated section which breeds more and more people who think homophobia and general verbal abuse are hilarious.

That said, A big hefty shit on you, OCR forums. Let your threads be closed and your posts be deleted. Let every fool who thinks he's profound in asking what you're listening to RIGHT NOW die where he slouches, and let My raging fist of anger mash my keyboard in disgust.

Like so:

FJFSENSDFNOSDFANASDSDFNSDFNLONFS

thank you.

I love you NPF, even if you are a bunch of buzby totin' rigid-ass Gestapo about it...(Cause...they wore buzby's and all....no they didn't.) Please keep me free forever of Otaku Redheaded Stepchildren.

Too sad that the OCR forums are, ya know, horrid, since half of my music collection is made up of tracks from it. Then again, I don't frequent it so much because I've never submitted anything of my own (as pretty as my rendition of Kefka's theme for glockenspiel and piano in D minor may be, it has never been recorded in digital format).

Still, my vote goes for the World of Warcraft forums. With a repeating mantra of "stfu n00b kthxbai", intelligent discussion of any topic inevitably gives way to flaming, outrage, and outrageous flaming. And yet, I keep checking back to see if there's anything of relevence. Am I a glutton for punishment? Perhaps. Is that so wrong?

Well.... yes. Yes it is.

The worst part about the OCR forum is the "UnModerated" section. There's crap in there that even Gaia would deem untasteful. Crap like - dare I say it? - hentai threads. *shudder* That's why I don't go there anymore. I used to request music, but no one ever really noticed me, so I just stopped caring.

I actually havn't been to any horrible forums. I've been to three (that I remember) and they were all pretty decent. The cloest thing I've seen to a bad thread was a dying one. There were a total of 5 people on the thread (counting me) and only 3 were active (also counting me) and 1 of them was a troll. No one could get him to shut up, and the mods never appeared to shut him up, so everyone just left. I tell ya, it's a sad thing to see a forum fall to the evils of a troll.

The other forum I used to frequent was decent, if not above average. The mods were quick and responsive, and active, so you could always count on them. There was little or no troll activity, and almost every post had something intelligent to say. I just lost intrest in the place, so I left.

I'm not counting Gaia, because I spent a total of 5 minutes there. Well, OK, 30 minutes.

stfu gai fgt! ban plz phag
Yeah this is one of the only forums I've been to where stuff like that doesn't happen.

I think the only other one was a quaint little RPG Maker forum by the name of LRPGM which I loved to pieces but had to give up because of school commitments. Then when I graduated I came to realise that I'd prefer to spend my time playing games not making them... So I never went back.

I agree that this forum is surprisingly well mannered. I thought it would be full of annoying people going:

:fighter: I like swords!
:bmage: stabbity!

huh! I made teh funnies!
I guess I missed that because I'm sure it must of once happened

Comic book site forums are like the Holocaust. Except more offensive.

I don't think I've visited any truly horrible boards, either. I frequent a few Beatles boards mainly, besides this one, and for the most part they're fine (the George Harrison board, f'r instance, is essentially a great big bunch of nice people). But I know one Beatles-related board (I don't want to name any names) where for the most part the posts are inoffensive; but as soon as any member posts a subject even vaguely to do with U.S. politics, certain regulars there seem to go more or less bat-chit along partisan lines. Even threads which originally didn't have much to do with D.C. shenanigans at all can be highjacked if the mods aren't vigilant. It can be kind of a drag when you return to a potentially interesting thread you were reading last night only to find that, once you strip away the nice grammar and pretense of logic, has essentially devolved into "OMFG TEH LIBERALZ ARE EVIL N SO R U MY LINK PROOVS IT N UR LINK SUXX".

Is it disloyal of me to feel like this about one aspect of a place but remain a member? I mean, everything else about the place is all right, it's just discussions of U.S. policy decisions and that get personal there in ways they really oughtn't.

Makes me thank the deity I'm not sure exists that ours are among the most no-nonsense and ban-happy moderators online, tho'. (I mean that in a nice way. Seriously. They weed out the troublemakers, and I like that. w00t mods[/brownnose].)

I remember posting in a Zelda Brazilian Forum, about two years ago. There, I was able to experience the worst mods EVER.

They had tons of stupid, annoying, strict and completely random little rules that carried heavy punishment for the occasional miserable soul who dared to disobey them. The staff cared only about people who licked their shoes and kissed the ground they walked. They closed threads for apparently no reason, demanded adoration for every little thing they did and banned users because they posted twice in the same page (yes, some sections of the forums only allowed the user to post once in each page), putting their names on a separate board for other users to comment on their wickedness. I'm probably sounding like a rebel refusing to recognize authority, but it looked more like a dictatorship instead of a place for you to discuss your interests in a friendly way. But seriously, it was that bad.

I never got any fun posting there, as far as I can remember.
