¬________¬"""

Hey...I have a question too, but I didn't felt like doing a new post nor annoying people with private messages (I would have probably been thrown rocks at until death ensues....)

So if you can excuse the subject-change, I'll ask it there. I looked in the Dead Topic Repository but I was not able to find my answer...

You see, when I've first read the comic, (wich is not very long ago...), Episode 034: Introductions Are In Order raised a question.
When RM jumps in, he shouts Excelsior in a way that fist made me think it was his name...
I know it's not, it's probably some random banter/running gag/popular caption/slogan/tv ad reference/English expression/anything else
......but I would like to know what it means. Or what's the heck of it. Or something. I don't know, maybe it was some Brian's mysterious gag whom twist the very mind of the reader and that nobody ever figured out what it meant(or why he said that)..but as I said previously, I haven't been able to find the topic....
:sweatdrop

Thanks in advance for any eventual response...
...and please don't throw rocks at me???

I always figured Excelsior was a reference to a Longfellow poem.

The shades of night were falling fast,
As through an Alpine village passed
A youth, who bore, 'mid snow and ice,
A banner with the strange device,
Excelsior!

Excelsior is Latin for "ever higher" or something like that. Maybe Brian was intending some modern reference that I don't get, but that's what I've always thought.

That would make sense, and it's pretty much the kind of grandiose stuff RM would refer to in such a moment.
Thanks then! ^^
*hug you*
I guess it falls under the "popular caption" category so I was not totally lost in the mist..... XD

...I should have guessed it really was latin...*shrugs*

And even more, "Excelsior!" is a phrase that's used by Marvel comic afficianados (sometimes) because it's one of the many catch-phrases that Stan Lee used when he ended little blurbs or wrote articles in comic books. He had other phrases as well, including the ever-popular "'nuff said" which, unless I'm mistaken, I've also seen a reference to in this comic. At anyrate, my guess is that either Brian was deliberately quoting Stan Lee (who was probably quoting Longfellow) or knew of both Stan Lee and Longfellow. Either way, I know Brian knew about Stan Lee... he's admitted to being a "comic-nerd" several times, and it's nearly impossible that the use of Excelsior was unconnected given that.

So... hope that helps!

Ah, I figured there was some sort of pop culture reference in there that I wasn't getting. Thanks.

tacticslion 02-28-2006 11:41 AM

to answer the real question...

BMoC#-stuff:
Sorry for not answering your question originally. I've looked up other comics, however the only one I can seem to find reference to is FF:V is for 5!, yet I seem to be unable to actually locate the comic itself. It's not much I know. I hope this helps, but if not... sorry! :sweatdrop

does it matter if it's still running or not because if not there is a FF7 polygon(well they aren't sprites are they) comic called 7up, there's a link to it on VG Cats under the fan comics section from memory.
