But that required a lot of tech.

I was reading at IGN about it... and it seens that the system is so inteligent and intuitive that every file, creature, building will be in such a small file that a entire creature could fit in a 10kb or less download... that makes a 1mb download just as "content worthy" as a expansion pack!
Thank the demoscene. In the full hour version he talks about it. I've been waiting for years to see a game company make a game using demoscene techniques--saved space = invaluable.

The thing I absolutely love about games like this though, is that they spawn things, they spawn memes, a culture, that the creators never even expected. Garry's Mod, The Sims, Second Life; all sandbox-like games continually push the boundaries of creativity further and further out, to the point where it's literally up to the player. I mean, I can't even conceive of what weird concepts will arise out of this. It's not just one part of the game that's malleable--it's the whol fuckin' thing. Cities, creatures, entire strategems for playing the game will probably be perpetually churned out for years to come.

Hopefully, downloadable player models and such (manually) will exist at some point (even if it's a quasi-hack, in the sense that you have to shove it into the game code). Race of Marios, anyone? Hyrule as a city? Fuck yeah. I'm sure you could get the textures right, too, as he said in the video that the texture part wasn't implemented yet.

PS: Floating city? Holy shit, yes. It's Chrono Trigger and Xenogears and Trigun and everything else in my dreams all mashed together. *pleasant sigh*

Seamonkeys bitches. Real aquatic monkeys. Not brine shrimp. I am realy concerned about flying creatures. or humans. This game looks like the best thing ever.Too bad I wont be able to play it when it comes out, or three years later. I wonder if cross breeding would be possible, to further the changes, nothing to extreme, but if you had two dominant races on the planet, both moderately different. could you breed a new creature and set it on auto, to cause an interesting situation with your normal dominant races and the new hybrid creatures. (yes I want a sapien-superior war)
edit: your all forgetting the credit system he mentioned, I'm assuming itwould means that certain changes and features would cost varrying prices, and that the things you accomplish in one generation would determine how much you have. It would mean that you may not be able to do all the things you want (which may or maynot be a good thing) ebecasue you don't have enouhg money.

Wait... just how fantastical is this game going to be? Sure it's cool to make your own awesome 5 legged monster built to kill, but what about fantastical things? Can you, say, make a dragon and give it special glands to breath fire? Can you even make a flying lizard that can also swim, making an all terrain monster? Just how much can you let your imagination fly?

Premmy 03-05-2006 03:06 PM

I'm pretty sure that depends on how much credit you have. I wonder if once you get to the civilization levels, can you srm your creatures with personal firearms. if so, you could create a dragon like creature and give it a flame thrower.

He talked about having to save money for a brain, I think I would rather wait as long as I can, make my race as strong as possible, then, and only then, start working on brains.

What about you guys?

Premmy 03-05-2006 03:19 PM

that would be my choice, unless I was building an underwater race, then I would build up the brain early, since being smarter would help me in the multi dimensional environament.

Lockeownzj00 03-05-2006 03:39 PM

Yeah, I'm shooting (or I would be shooting) for 'the Ancients'-style Atlantian super-intelligent race, a la SG:A.

Premmy 03-05-2006 03:43 PM

I wonder If you'll be allowed to have biological weapons like acid spitting or venom.

Bells 03-05-2006 03:46 PM

knowing that you can build tanks, airships and planet-destroyer UFO's, i dont think we will be able to put stuff like "Fire breath" "Acid Spill" or stuff like that on the creatures...

but i just KNOW that we will see some Millenium Falcon's flying around...

ITs a lot like the sims... you play any freaking way you WANT...

It was fun to start a Legit game (no hacks) with 8 people in a house =P
