Mindless self indulgence? HECK YEA! >:P

Can't. Wait. Until. Fall. Oh my god, I want this game right now. I'm imagining cute fuzzy little balls with huge carnivourous teeth and furry little limbs. They would initiate a galactic wide campaign of stability, a "galactic empire" if you will. Of course, i would have to exterminate many of the more violent species not willing to be assimilated. Multiple war campaigns... Wait! Can you use other species you've assimilated to do your dirty work! :O Rule your species from the home planet, and crush rebellions with your frontier species/planets that you don't really give a damn about. Hmmm... okay so maybe it's not such a peaceful empire.... but still. So awesome.

This is more of the same stuff that creeps me out about knowing Locke. He opens his mouth, words come out, and I go, "Who is this person, and why is it he talks, acts, and sounds just like me?"

But enough about my pseudo-gay-forum-lover thing.

What gets me about Spore is the clay/lego/Construkts thing. It looks so utterly phonomenal I just can't help myself. This is how awesome computer gaming is; this is the kind of shit that, when people say, "Well what did video games teach you," I say, "Well, I just populated an entire world and generated my own species of mammals."

Phil: Since I'm recognising the spoiler text, I have a solution to your problem
considering that this game has that wonderful clay molding system for the flesh of your creatures, you could just extend the flesh out in the crotch area like an abnormal growth, then mold to your satisfaction.
Always glad to help. I wonder if there are dimension averages for this game. Because I'd love to make Who's a tiny race of peaceful sentient biengs small enough to build their cities on the head of a pin. One thing I dislike about Will Wright is his love of the whole command control system. I wonder if once you reach civilization levels could you still take control of individuals and cause msicheif on that level.

I don't think Spore's creature editor can accomodate the size of my wang.

Actually I'm pretty sure I read in the transcript interview of Will Wright that you can scale the objects down pretty small. There's hope for you yet!

Zing.

My newest concern is that the game is too good to be true. The day before it's scheduled release date, there will be an unscheduled spacecraft launch at Cape Canaveral, and perhaps a few high-res photos of someone who looks remarkably like Will Wright peeing down on us puny mortals.

phil_ 03-09-2006 10:10 PM

Premonitions, you assume that I want to do that. Frankly, my idea horrifies me as much as anyone, and I'm surprised that my brain allowed me to think it. I'll just let some weirdo implement it for me.

Though, I wonder exactly how much sculpting we'll be able to do. On the tripod, he just adds and subtracts girth by rolling to mouse-wheel, but the Care Bear doesn't look like its face could be created like that. Also, how much control will we have on the shape of the Mr. Potato Head parts? Will we be able to sculpt them like the torso, or just stretch and bend'em?

I guess we'll find out eventually, won't we?

And it's either (spoiler) or (color=111111), not (color="black"). Just so ya know, Premonitions.

Azisien 03-09-2006 10:18 PM

I imagine advanced creations like his care bear and such are actually rather difficult to create. He said he likes making fairly user-friendly editors (see: Sims). I can believe at this point it will take people a few weeks, maybe even months, to become really proficient in the editors such that they can actually create pretty much whatever they want (within the confines of the editors, whatever those are).

Bells 03-10-2006 02:09 PM

Im actually more concern about the Skinning and such than the actually molding of the body...

But yes... i WILL make a Pikachu...

The Wandering God 03-10-2006 05:38 PM

Will Wright man.

Seriously, if this was coming from anyone else, I would think this was an elaborate hoax.

But this is Will Wright.

What I want to know is:

Do you have to move onto the next step? What if you like being a simple predator? I think someone else asked this but, can I save at mulitple points in progression of the game?

And has anyone else seen the movie, Evolution? With David Duchovny(spelling) and Julianne Moore? That had some freaky little creatures in it.

I loved the quote
"Well, there goes my reputation as a non-violent game designer."

The Wandering God

Azisien 03-10-2006 06:12 PM

This is all guesswork, but I think the player controls when they move on to the next generation. If you're content with just playing hungry dinosaur-lobster-ant-thing, I don't think they'll stop you.

The game doesn't seem to be very goal-driven in the stricter sense of the term, which is simultaneously it's greatest strength and greatest weakness.

The one where at the end they killed the giant amoeba/cell/blob thingy using humongous amounts of Head & Shoulders?

Nope, never heard about it. Although that gives me an idea..

GIANT UNICELLULAR PROKARYOTES FOR THE GALAXY CONQUEST! Multicellular organisms are SO overrated.

Premmy 03-10-2006 09:31 PM

Hehe,
"Don't tell anyone where I've been"
"Harry we don't have time for you to pretend like you know what you're doing"
"Forget the foreplay we just got screwed"
I think, Az is right, you have to mate to continue on to the next level, or at least enhance your creature mentally, if you just boost it physically I suppose you would just be a super predator. (You know I came up with this and city of heroes years before and now I've got nothin')

Aerozord 03-10-2006 09:51 PM

well I read about it awhile ago so my info might be abit dated, but I believe the closest thing to a goal is this 'become a god'. Your race can evolve far beyond humans and become god-like. You think you were sadistic with Sims? Lets see what happens when you can destroy entire planets.

Pfft, until you're turning making stars go nova and turning entire, hopeful solar systems into nebulous clouds of charged particles, you aren't a "god" in my books. Actually I've read some sci-fi where they do that, and they weren't gods, they just had good bombs...Not sure where I'm going with this...Smoke.

I hope there's a solid balance between war vs. peace in terms of difficulty. One "goal" might be imperial galactic dominion, via blowing up planets, but some (like Locke, myself, et al) might think it a far greater accomplishment to get, say, one hundred planets functioning peacefully under your control. This depends on how difficult micro/macro-management is, so that number might be ten, or a thousand. Oh yeah, I can see myself playing for that long easily. I played the Sims religiously, and this goes even further. The only reason I didn't subscribe to Sims Online when it came out was my lack of a credit card. And maybe Call of Duty.

Take my money Will, take it. TAKE IT ALL!

Aerozord 03-10-2006 11:17 PM

I meant god like because you can just snap your fingers and make planets go pop.

Now don't get me wrong, I think of that as no great acomplishment. But once you see your empire in perfect order, you then want to see how much chaos you can create by tearing it apart. Even if just out of morbid curiousity. Plus you can also see how resilient they are. Destroy some things just to see if your society can handle some strife

Bells 03-11-2006 04:58 PM

maybe you guys saw this on the other thread, but this BELONGS here...

Start praticing the first steps on Spore =P

http://jenovachen.com/flowingames/im...wing/core.html

PS: Attetion to the sound effects... the same i heard at the WW's Spore demo

The Wandering God 03-11-2006 08:49 PM

I was just thinking about some of the types of creatures you could make.

How about Driders from Forgotten Realms? Human-like body on a spider legs and suchlike.

Or, or, oooooh Centaurs!

Please, please tell me you can combine wings with bipedal creatures. That would rock00rzz my sock00rzz. Or something to that effect.

The Wandering God

ZERO. 03-13-2006 01:25 AM

I like the idea of making a galactic empire of peace and prosperity where everything is in perfect balance. Then tip the balance to see if my galactic empire turned into a bunch of pussies in the time of peace.

Pyros, I shall create a race of bipedal cats that use a weapon of some sort... maybe something involving a rat... or maybe a flail, but ayway, they shall assist you, and soon the galaxy will be ruled by cats.

Then I'll have a team of my cats go to the capitol of your home-planet, faking a peaceful visit, see your ruler, and take 'em out, hehe...

Bells 03-20-2006 12:33 AM

I hope that you all create at least ONE chocobo-like race...

I want to maximize the amount of Chocobo societies on Spore! Dont let me Down guys!

DFM 03-20-2006 12:51 AM

I'll try, but given my artistic skill, you're probably going to get a bunch of basic geometric shapes running around with legs and teeth.

Actually, that would rock.

Abyzz 03-20-2006 09:31 AM

Im going to try to re-create the Alien race (from the Alien movies) there goint to be so sweeeet:D
but on the other hand making there base is going to need allot of work but its ok i intend to spend the rest of my life playing that game:whee:

Karrrrrrrrrrrresche 03-20-2006 09:46 AM

Im probably going to try to make a humanoid race and start some reality tv shows with the planets.
20 species one planet and a space saucer that on a whim will destroy them!
Find out what happens as soon as i can make it >>

C-dog 03-21-2006 06:46 PM

I want to know if I can use the spaceship to transport water between planets. My grand plan is to develop an underwater species (think naga-ish) and then use water from other planets to create an ocean planet. Either that or have some option during the terraforming phase on how much water will be on the planet.

My other plan is to go in the opposite direction. A hot desert planet - think Frank Herbert's Dune. Sand Worms ftw!

theKOT 03-21-2006 11:03 PM

I'm pretty sure you can terraform the planet, so you could make a water planet if you wanted... But I don't know if you can transfer water. I wonder if you can remain a sea creature but get to the civilization level.

phil_ 03-23-2006 06:14 PM

My forgotten dreams of days gone by return to me with new strength! In other words, Spore will be on the DS and PSP. Hooray!

KOT, you can make a galactic underwater empire. Read the interviews from a few pages back; many questions you may or may not have are answered there.

EDIT: Interview Part 1, Part 2. I was reading through this thread, and I almost missed the link to gamingsteve, where these are found. So it's more than understandable that others missed it.

OH HELL YEAH!

Playing on a NDS might screw up online content a LITTLE, but portable Spore would be worth it (Well, MORE portable than my labtop).

Sir, once this game comes out, you and I will need to have a long, LONG talk about a "Thing" I've been planning now for awhile....
K.A. would be very pleased with this idea...

Man, this is gonna be the rise of some very awsome Machinima's....

pineapple 03-24-2006 02:25 AM

I just hope you can do mammalian creatures

Althane 03-24-2006 07:03 AM

Eh, you probably can. Half the people would be wanting to make mammals anyways, so there yah go.

Does anyone have specs for the needed hardware yet? It looks like I might get lucky, and get a new computer before it comes out, so I'm gonna push for the strongest graphics card I can get, but... yeah.

Mr.McSpiff 03-26-2006 01:17 AM

Yeah I was reading around on the Gamefaq's Board's so I don't know how reliable the info is but someone quoting WW said there was going to be a size limit of roughly the size of an elephant(which would pretty much blow chocolate muffins:whee: ) but it was on GF's Board's so I wouldn't put my money on it :sweatdrop

The Wandering God 04-27-2006 01:47 AM

Okay, I realize this topic is really old, but new information is to be had.

Februrary 1, 2007. That's a long ways away. Kind of sucks, but if it needs the extra couple of months, I'd rather that than a broken or sucky game that could be so very awesome.

The Wandering God

Azisien 04-28-2006 02:27 PM

BLARGETH! But I agree with TWG on the 'take extra time to make game awesome' part, and this gives me time to do a whole semester: A) Free of Spore's influence and B) Working on Neverwinter Nights 2 instead. God damn, NWN2 BETTER be out long before then.

Daimo Mac, The Blue Light of Hope 05-02-2006 10:08 PM

I do believe this is the reason i am buying myself a Lap top (that and I want my own computer dammit)

Creatign our own creatures. Hmm, i guess I can finally Mime Red Mage's Bird mutilating skills.
