The Watch: Discworld RP sign-up
I shall now get off my lazy butt to create this sign-up sheet. Well, technically, I don't have to get up at all, seeing as how I'm sitting in front of a computer. But I digress...
THE STORY: As always, Ankh-Morpork is a bustling hive of activity. The largest city on The Disc, it has prospered under the rule of Lord Havelock Venetari (according to Lord Havelock Venetari) and is constantly growing. Of course, the rise in population means a rise in economic welfare, as well as a rise in pollution and general scum and villainy. (Although with the formation of the Thieves Guild, Assasin's Guild, and Beggar's Guild--at the request of Lord Venitari-- crime has now become Organized Crime. And organization is a step in the right direction.) The original City Watch does its best to protect the citizens of Ankh-Morpork, but has trouble keeping up with the rate at which one large city can cause mayhem. Not to mention the fact that the Unseen University, the School of Wizardry, is constanly accidentally opening portals to new dimensions or dumping toxic potions into the Anhk River, mutating local wildlife. As a result, a second, smaller branch of the Watch is being set up. Volunteers are usually somewhat scarce, so the New Watch is willing to accept just about anybody. All recruits are promised five Ankh-Morpork dollars and their own uniform when they join. What happens when a bunch of rag-tag night watchmen (and watchwomen) are given a relatively small task and left on their own?? In Ankh-Morpork, the answer is usually "nothing good." THE SIGN-UP SHEET: Name: Species: I'll accept pretty much any species found in the novels.** If you've got something else in mind, though, run it by me. Age: Gender: Appearance: Note- If your character has weapons or carries any particular items with them, list them here with your description. Bio: **Some examples of species found in the novels would be: Humans Elves Dwarves Banshees Zombies Vampires Other Undeads Werewolves Talking Animals Gnomes Golems Gargoyles Trolls Nac Mac Feegle ... and others. NOTE: I won't accept existing characters-- Nobody gets to play as Death, Carrot, Sam Vimes, et cetera. Stop whining. Thanks for playing! |
Name: Amit
Species: Golem Age: 257 Gender: Insofar as golems have one, male Appearance: Is made of clay and is seven feet tall. One of his arms is just slightly smaller than the other, a result of years of remaking himself. Bio: He was originally a heavy lifter for a farmer. Then he was sold to a company that makes cigars, and was traded in part of a deal to a butcher. One of his golem friends saved up enough money and bought him and freed him, and now he works in the Watch. He does have a better grasp on language than Dorfl, but he still Talks Like This. (On a side note, it just won't feel Discworldy if Death doesn't make at least one appearance.) |
Name: Countess Clarissa Valcen
Species: vampiress Age: 350 Gender: Female. Appearance: Clarissa is a pale beauty of night - a perfect creature of the dark, save for the black ribbon pinned on her evening dress that denoted her aversion to human blood. Tall, thin and imposing, Clarissa always seems to carry the darkness with her. Dark hair, pale skin, deep wine red eyes... There was definitely an ethereal quality to her vampiric beauty. She wears a tiny glass vial of blood on a necklace. During daytime, she wears fully-protective clothing and goggles to prevent herself from being burnt by the sun. She is, of course, most active at night, and takes the night watches more eagerly than the daytimes - but she doesn't complain. Fully protective clothing means she is covered head to toe in black cloth, even going as far to wear trousers under her evening dress. The goggles also block out the maximal amount of sunlight - just enough for her to see things clearly... but since she's a vampire, seeing clearly in the dark is an advantage to her career. She also seems to carry around a small pack, in which are contained a myriad number of small vials all containing Holy Water blessed by the priests of either one god or another, or a combination of gods. Bio: Alright, so Clarissa is a vampiress. So what? At least she's a black-ribbon member, and not one of them dangerous human-blood cravers. But still... Coming from an extensive family of counts and countesses, Clarissa was just another vampiress to pass on her genetical line... That is, before she converted in order to survive the 'modernizing' of Discworld. Of course, now that she comes to think of it, Clarissa was perhaps a bit more glad than most vampires of the conversion... owing now to the fact that she has become rather interested... no... addicted to the idea of Holy water - a normally fatal interest to a vampire, and Clarissa is no exception. That was perhaps why Clarissa keeps a vial of animal blood close to her, just so in case she spills a bit on her while building her collection of the fascinating Holy Water from any religion at all. Despite the femininity of Clarissa, the Countess is well-versed in the arts of fighting. A vampiress had to be if she were to survive any amount of time. Super-fast, strong, and - to a degree - a mind-influencer, Clarissa was ideal for interrogating dangerous, single-minded criminals or suspects, and using the eyes of dumb animals to spy and seek. Clarissa is a strong vampiress. Stronger than many of her blood-drinking relatives. However, some habits die hard (metaphorically speaking, of course), and she will give her 'victims' a fair go at killing her if she considers them a worthwhile challenge. Recently, in the new Watch, Countess Clarissa has developed a rather absent-minded demeanour, even though hiding behind that was a mind sharper than Death's Scythe. She has been known to make some rather random third-wall comments - hinting at smudges on the walls, overlooked details, and other such things that her sharp eyes can pick out. She can transform into a thin grey mist. |
Can somone fill me in on discworld? Right now, I'm thinking a medi-evil setting sort of like morrowind.
Name: Senya (DEAL WITH IT! I use the same name for every RP. So what?) Species: Elf (I'm thinking super-fast, graceful elves, somewhat lacking in strength) Age: 25 Gender: male Appearance: He is about 5"6 with pale grey hair. He wears a green tunic with a long-sleeved grey shirt underneath. He wears leather boots and gauntlets, and wears blue jeans (he found them laying by the river side and put them on. They fell through a dimensional portal that leads to Earth). He carries a belt of throwing knives and a short sword with him, as well as lock picks, a few smoke bombs, and a grappling hook. This is all carried in his backpack and on his belt. Bio: Having been kicked out of the thieve's guild for stealing from fellow thieves, he sold things on the street, then stole back his merchandise when they weren't looking. He joined the watch to get the five bucks and clothes, then tried to leave, but was stopped. The guards said "You can't leave with all the pickpockets and thieves about" He rolled his eyes in response. He does not wear his uniform. He is very (very) fast, but about average in strength. He is very skilled at pick-pocketing and thievery, and is very wary of guards. He comes from a small village outside of Anth-Pmork (I don't know hwo to spell it) |
If you compare the Disc to Morrowind again I'll shoot you. The Discworld is the setting for Terry Pratchett's parody series of fantasy novels. They parody the typical fantasy genre. Elves on the Disc are ugly little things who aren't very pleasant at all. Read the books; they cost seven bucks US each. It's not gonna break your bank. Also, if you're in the Vimes Watch, you wear your uniform. It's spelled Ankh-Morpork.

For thieves not registered with the Guild...well, the Guild is very organized, and people like your character would be giving them a bad name, so they'd take care of you...as in killing you. I believe their weathervane has the corpses of wannabe-thieves impaled to serve as a warning against dishonest thieving. Of course, as Nobby Nobbs proves, you can be a petty thief and still be a watchman. Quote:
I'll have my banshee character up at some point, I just gotta hammer out some things. |
Oh, the thieves know that Nobby is really the Dowager Duchess of Quirm and you don't mess with royalty.

I didn't notice this was a watch RP, so I decided to make a werewolf instead.
Name: Hans Leopold Krieger (or "Howler") Species: Werewolf Age: 29 Gender: Male Appearance: In human form, Hans is a fairly unkempt young man in a loose leather shirt and pants, with light brown hair that somehow manages to hang rakishly around his head. He seems vaguely uncomfortable in Watch uniform, and has a nasty habit of scratching himself when he thinks nobody is looking, but when he's trying to be nice, he has a greasy sort of charm around him. In wolf form, Howler resembles a beagle, except no beagle ever grew so large or had such pointed teeth. However, he still retains his "lovable mutt" look in this shape, which he uses to get treats, or to charm people out of hitting him with newspapers. Bio: Hans was abandoned by his parents halfway between Uberwald and Ankh-Morpork. Still a child and before his first change, he would have succumbed to the elements had not a travelling circus picked him up. Its lack of a name is a testament to its lack of popularity, but Hans forged a close bond with the acrobats who adopted him, even when he turnd 13 and changed into a werewolf for the first time. After discussion with the ringmaster, it was agreed that he should stay... though now he ahd his own act, as Howler, the Uncontrollable Wolf-Man. It was not without some irony that Hans listened to the oohs and aahs of the audience, knowing that he had just enthralled them mintues earlier with his acrobatic feats. The circus made its way down to Ankh-Morpork several times to perform on the outskirts of town, but on its latest visit, Hans decided to wander into town and spend the night with a tankard in hand and a woman in tow. When he woke up, he returned to the campsite to find that the circus was gone. Just like that. He asked around, but nobody saw them leave, and when he reported it to the Watch, they looked at him like he was a madman and politely asked him to leave. ("Has anyone seen my circus, ha ha ha", Hans heard on the way out.) Somewhat miffed, but very hungry, Hans realised that he needed to find work, and fast. As fate would have it, he stumbled upon a recruitment poster for the New Watch. Though his pride chafed at joining the Watch which had rebuffed him, he acknowledged that he had to eat, and he figured that he could look for his circus on the side. |
Yeah... I don't think i can do this RP. I'm already in two. I'm out.
