Black Mage's descent from Great Evil to Laughing Stock of the Universe
 

Alright. BM was first screwed over so badly that it could only be described as horrible assrapification was in the area around #279. Barring WM not being part of the team,that is. It was so early on that it doesn't count.

And yes, I know that BM had been screwed over since then, but this was the first time it was a case of BM being horribly fucked in the ass rather than just being slapped on the wrist. This was the first time he was made out to be the laughing stock of the Universe and not anyone else. It was failure of the worst variety.


I'm actually rereading the archives, so if there are no posts here by the time I run into the next horrible fuckage then I will edit this one so as to avoid the "no-double-posting" shrieks that would result from double posting.

Oh, and if you're wondering what to discuss, I figure anything related to BM's decline towards master laughingstock.

Well the way I figure it its going to be and old saying. That saying is "what goes around comes around." The way I figure it the bad things that happen to black mage will happen to the people who laughed at him. Maybe he will be the one doing the laughing, and maybe the people who laughed at him will die/get badly injured.

I belive that black mage is the bomb, and that the others are just pawns in black mages eyes. They are just there to protect black mage, in others words they are meat shields.

Any how I belive that black mage sometimes is the cause of all his troubles, Alonge with fighter, theif, and red mage, but I think theif is the true proublem.

Well, as I have previously said in another topic (but nobody evers notice what I say so I can merrily come back with it again and make it look like novelty),
I believe that since Black Mage keeps using Hadoken- sipping in the process love from the Universe :fighter:It's UnivArse!, the Universe then release hate on BM as a side-effect/ self-defence reaction/ balance of things.

You can notice that life was much less screwed to BM when he had not used (much) hadokens at the beggining of the story, and then went worst to worst as he used that spell more and more...

I may be missing something, but Black Mage was never really the "Great Evil." The closest he came was becoming the ruler of Hell. Even so, he only visibly stayed that way for, what, four comics? This one, this one, this one, and I think... yeah, this one.

He's been getting screwed over since before the first comic. If you're wondering how, he got screwed by listening to Fighter, letting Fighter handle the money, letting Fighter talk to the monsters, and quite possibly the BIGGEST ONE OF ALL, letting Fighter arrange a team of Light Warriors, and simultaneously getting the biggest contractual screwing-over of his life from Thief, a contractual braining that still continues to plague him to this very day. And that's just in the first 31 comics.

I have to ask, how does this compare with all that?

Let's see... you want stuff AFTER #279? Well, Black Mage gets rejected, Black Mage gets rejected AND insulted, and that's two in a row right there, then there's the HUGE case of being retconned by the trivial pursuits of a wizard and/or by the Chronocops, and that's in the space of just 14 episodes. If that doesn't solidify "Black Mage is the whipping boy of the series," especially in light of the recent kick to the crotch he recieved upon attempting to confront a random monster, then I don't know what is.

As this would be if I don't say something on topic, so here we go:

BM wasn't really getting screwed over by the universe during Survivor 8-bit Style, he was getting screwed over by himself, and the only really bad one was the Contract from Hell and I admit I forgot that one. Plus, back then, he was putting out as much as he was taking in, although the output was more verbal than physical. Point is that 279 was the first time something happened that could be described as:

Black Mage was never meant to be portrayed as anything but a loser. Sure, he does incredibly evil things, but he was never meant to be seen as a "bad ass" or "cool" in any respect. In rare moments of pity, or if the story calls for it, he's allowed to step up and kick ass for a bit, but he's always punished by it in some way.

And as I've said a hundred or so times since I started this comic, "Everything that happens, happens to hurt Black Mage."

That you are surprised or somehow insulted that Black Mage "turned" into a joke leads me to believe you weren't paying attention before ;D
