English Comp Poll
Okay, I need to do some "field research" for my English comp class, which in this case can be done in the form of a nice little internet poll. ^_^
I'm looking for info on perceived cruelties in nature, as seen by each gender. So, if you feel so moved, just respond with your gender and a yes-or-no answer -- but feel free to give any anecdotes on the subject. Thanks a bunch. :) Oh, and I'll be leaving this 'open' until sometime tomorrow morning. |
Nature can't be cruel. Cruelty implies malice, and malice implies intelligence. Humans are the only creatures capable of cruelty. Everything else is just survival instinct.
Oh, and for the record, I'm a man, baby! |
The only thing cruel in nature is man,
and possibly death, because it is indiscriminate. But Overall gurusloth is right, cruelty=intelligence. man of men |
Yep as the others have said man is the ultimate in cruelness, treating all other species as meer entertainment for their own twisted purposes. Even other apes, our closest relatives, are taken out of their own homes to be put on display for us to stare at. Sickening.
I hate humans. Yeah Im a man too. |
As I consider all things to be a part of nature (physical or ethereal, man or astro-man), I feel that nature is rife with cruelty, from the aforementioned cruelty of humans to the very will of existance itself, which seeks to do nothing more than crush the hopes and dreams of many. Also, to seperate humans from nature is nothing more than arrogance. So yes, nature am cruel.
And I'm a dude. |
Nature is cruel. It is an unfairly organized system that distributes power unevenly between masses that may or may not deserve it. The entire system is built around the ideal that lessers must die so that greaters may live.
I'm a girl, of course. ;) |
Nature isn't cruel, it just is.
I am a man. |
I think (he/she I don't know which) they meant how people feel that the other gender got something better. For example (though I don't believe it true) a man would feel it is cruel to have a penis because it gets in the way or something. Tell me if I'm wrong:sweatdrop. I'm a guy by the way.

Nature (exluding belife in God) is not an inteligent force. It is a set of physics, instincts... Natural 'laws'. There is no 'cruelty' becuase there is no intent on 'nature's' part to be cruel. The only beings that seem capable of intending to be cruel seem to be those with more advanced intelect, esspecially humans.
So that's a 'no'. Please let the record show that 'Nique' is one gorgeous hunk of man. |
I guess that I would edit my statement to say that only animals capable of intent, which include humans, dolphins, and higher primates, are capable of cruelty. However, the very nature of cruelty is subjective. My definition may differ from yours, as is it may differ from even your english teachers'. My advice is to read Lord Of The Flies... It is a great story about the differences in mans cruelty. As Pos said, to seperate ourselves from nature is selfish, and the book actually explores many avenues into human thought.
edit* I'm still a dude |
