On one hand, it DOES look kick-ass. Like, "Planetside", except minus all the suck.

On the other hand, it *IS* EA, so they're just as destined to fuck it up as Sony did to Planetside.

Onto more details.

- There's a lot of kick-ass looking stuff. Suffice to say, I'm happy for that.

However:

1) I have no reason to believe that EA would be able to make Rock, Paper, Scissors balanced. BF2 wasn't bad, per se, but the game balance was idiotic. SpecOps weapons were undoubtably the best guns in the game (though I hear the unlockables added by the expansion were even worse). Speaking of, the unlockable system and scoreboard was the worst idea I'd seen.

2) DICE has had two multiplayer games now and they STILL haven't shown that they're able to make a game that runs smoothly, doesn't eat ten times the resources it should, or fix the shakey, lame netcode that plagued both games.

3) I know that, being a Battlefield game, it's going to be made for the lowest-common-denominator. Me? I'd prefer complicated vehicle control (Imagine controlling those mechs like in Mechwarrior), a heavy reliance on teamwork, and a slower-paced, more 'intelligent' style of gameplay, where the best parts of the game don't always involve jumping around with a grenade launcher.

However, EA knows that games like that don't sell well, and quick fast mindless twitch action is where the dollars are at.

On second thought, this would fit better in 'Video games', aye? :P

Really, you've been around long enough to know not to double post. I'll have to officially warn you.

I guess I don't really have much to say about it. I knew it was only a matter of time until we'd get another Battlefield, and considering the progression of the games through time, the next logical step was the future after B2's modern combat. Looks cool, will probably pick it up, but I didn't see anything that screamed "totally awesome" to me.

I didnt pick up Battlefield 2 because i played the demo (played it alot)
and just figured i would wait for an expansion for the pc version.
but now it seems i waited to long and they brought out a new one...yipee for me!

But they do have an expansion for it. BF2: Special Forces. Sooo fun. Running around with Night Vision goggles and zip lines is hella fun.

/me wants!
If they add some other modes to it aswell, like CTF or TDM, I'll be happy. The conquest mode can get a wee bit boring after a while, so CTF would be welcome.
BF2+Mechs can only = GOOD!

wait, whats this about? are they making a futuristic Battlefield?

CrazyBen 03-21-2006 02:10 PM

Looks helluva good. I just hope we can convince my mom to upgrade to highspeed internet before this comes out. For that matter, did it say when this is coming out?

I just want to get it in now, that if we form a Nuklear Power/8-Bit Theatre clan for this, I call head tank hunter. Fear the wall of RPGs.

The video said its comming out Fall 2006 so, I'm assuming sometime around Thanksgiving or a week before Christmas. Also, I should be in college by then with a brand spanking new comp and wireless connection. BRING IT ON!

Yep.

I call head medic in an 8BT clan. It's the only thing I can do.
