Locust Discussion RP

For all your talking needs.

EDIT: Okay...I just read the thread.

Everything looks good.

Except, remember...this is a "small" (<- liberal use of quotation marks) swarm. You've fought larger than this...of course then you have orbital support and a command center...and this time you have a guy in a command suit and maybe an airstrike if you're lucky.

Could we get an idea on the size of swarms? My only point of reference is, like, hyperkinetic strikes from orbit and 46 minutes of artillery NOT vaporizing it.

Or Starship Troopers, when the Roughnecks are defending that deserted outpost, but that swarm was essentially endless. Rough dimensions of this swarm?

Also, I'm hoping to get a little bit of poster to poster cooperation, since my entire battle strategy hinges on providing real-time accurate targets for you FPAS/artillery people, and perhaps even the snipers. Depending on what TB throws at us, anyway.

Number in the swarm...fine...make me think :p.

I'd say the swarm is high hundred thousands, total. You also have to remember that (some of) the bugs aren't stupid...they' learned that being clumped together equals a lot of dead drones. They've learned to spread out when on the march, but to regroup when on the attack. The artillery and orbital strikes take their toll, to be sure...but the time of being able to use that to wipe out a swarm is long past.

It's certainly not endless...but it's more than enough to put you in your place if you dilly dally, since you're being called back at the same time as you're fighting.

Well, my plan was that my squadron would be fighting until called off to escort the transports into space, with a pair of fighters to each transport. So assuming the time in between the next several posts will be negligible due to the fast pace of battle, I'll be available to coordinate with ground forces at my discretion before I get the order to break off.

EDIT: I've got six fighters under my command as the leader of B Flight, which is why we've been assigned Transports 10 through 12. Just thought that might be useful info.

Good good, I'm going to work on pinpointing the locations of Tankers and Leader bugs (even sub-leader will do) and translate those coordinates to B Flight. If that's cool with you, I'll then have to pretend FPASTC is giving me the all clear.

about that comment for another word for Plasma - how about Super-ionized Bio-organic acid/material? Since they are synthesised by organic creatures and stored as such for offensive/defensive use.

And I think I screwed up my first post.

If you're referring to entering combat several hours before anybody entered combat, perhaps you did. :P

.... Crap. I'm too lazy to edit as well....... just ignore that 'several hours before present time' please?

PhoenixFlame 03-22-2006 08:05 PM

Hmm. I suppose my mission will simply be the general line-defense style fair, as I believe I'm the only "Generalist combat" MI on the field.

:sweatdrop

I suppose I'd better think up all of those squadmates I'll be needing to write about.

ToastB, when you were talking about "Melee is suicide" I assume you referred to everyone, and not just the CM guys, eh? Swarmy scythe bugs aren't exactly easy to fend off, power armor or not, I suppose. Perhaps it would be possible in the rare one on one situation where a single bug gets past a defense perimeter however?

Though I understand the reason why you shouldn't wade into a pool of crazed aliens, of course.

So is everyone else just waiting for Lazy and Darth's opening posts or something? It's awful quiet in here.
