Class Change ramblings

I'm curious - could Thief beat Black Belt now that he seems to have mastered unarmed combat too? Assuming BB were to come back to life, of course...

Perhaps BB and WM may class change too, in the future. (They certainly deserve it more than the Light Warriors... hopefully BB isn't really, permanently dead...) And if so, what could they class change into? I think it would be great if WM class changed into the Time Mage from FFV - Stop, Slow, Fast, all those fun spells that would allow her to save the LWs split seconds before their latest imminent demise while remaining properly incognito. And I suppose BB could become the Trainer, if only so he could use that whip and make cracks about "freeing his beast." The Chemist might be a consideration too, opening the door to "Size Potion" jokes. Ok, I'll stop.

Speaking of FFV classes, what class did Fighter become exactly? He seems to be dual-wielding with ease now, but that's a Ninja skill... Is he a Knight? I thought with his love of swords he might end up being a Mystic Knight, or he might even diversify his portfolio and become a Dragoon... but right now, I'm not sure. If he is a Knight, shouldn't he have a shield?

This is what I get for not going to bed when I should. Anyhow, post away if you feel you have something to add.

BB is dead. He is not comming back.

Otherwise interesting, but unlikely...

Seran 03-28-2006 06:50 AM

For Fighter? Well, not necessarily. In Final Fantasy III (the actual Final Fantasy III, not VI), the class of Knight was enabled to use two swords. A shield wasn't really required. Some argue that Fighter could also be a Paladin, but those so far seem to have been the most commonly mentioned to describe Fighter's current class.

We cannot know until Sir Clevinger himself decides to tell us, for it is his decision.

Fighter's a Knight... it said so on the RM's plate thingy, didn't it...?

Seran 03-28-2006 03:51 PM

Plate...thingy? What plate thingy? If you mean that Heroclix thing or whatever people call it, I don't see it.

Hey, it's been said over and over again, Black Belt's not coming back. Conserve those hopes for something else and not something such as Black Belt coming back to life, because I really wouldn't want someone to spend some of their hoping on Black Belt when he's dead. But, if something like that did happen, it would be a most interesting situation.

This Black Belt is no more. It has ceased to be. It is an ex-Black Belt.

That said, WM changing into something more would be interesting. There IS a sprite prepped for it, IIRC. Definite options are Time Mage or, horror of horrors, Summoner.

This post really isn't about the class changes but rather the change in the characters that came with the classes. So I didn't want to make a new thread since it loosely fits under the same subject.

I noticed that someone mentioned in the Episode #680 discussion thread

After thinking about it, I think that Thursday's comic was the first actual conversation between Black Mage and Fighter in which they are actually discussing the situation in depth (as opposed to the usual "I have an inane idea" followed by "You're stupid"). in a long time.
In fact, I think that the only other time was in the very first comics before Thief, Red Mage, and White Mage started to tag along.

So really, starting around episode #677, we start noticing a more tolerable attitude of Black Mage towards Fighter.

So that lead me into thinking if there are any other significant changes in any of the other characters.

Theif seems to have become more physically abusive instead of his usual trickery, though he seems about as apathetic/disattached as usual.
Fighter himself seems to have went from "I have a frivolous idea" to "I have developed a well-thought out, frivolous idea."
and Red Mage is still.. Red Mage.

So.. do you think that these are only minor details that go along with the moment, or do you think that they are significant character developments?
Perhaps the BM/Fighter hostility gags were just getting old, so Brian decided to try something new?

Consider this: The idea of the characters that are not the Light Warriors getting a class change is a slim chance- However, should White Mage get a class change, it would most likely be a change to White Wizard (I believe Red Mage and Black Mage are technically considered Red or Black Wizards, though there names of course haven't changed). Either way, Red mage got a skill that advanced his do-whatever-needed characteristics, Fighter is merely more proficient with swords, Black mage got the ability to gain more attack style spells and abilities, and Thief gained more stealthy-ninja like skills.

So, then, wouldn't it follow, that IF White Mage got a class change, it would involve better healing ability? perhaps some sort of... I dunno... Ressurection spell?

So on the slim chance that White Mage class changed, you would gain the slim chance that BB might come back. No I'm not hoping for it. Yes I said that entirely because of people that tell other people to stop considering it.

Just a line of thought. But I don't really see anyone else getting a class change, although the Dark Warriors might eventually gain some sembelence of power. That would be an interesting thing to see.

Looks like I'll have to squash that. BB ISN"T COMING BACK, EVER!!!!!

Deimos 04-03-2006 08:30 PM

Never said he was. Only that it was possible, and that web comic authors tend to love throwing unexpected twists in the mix. Nothing wrong with letting people think about the possibilities.
