Shock Treatment... For kids?

Shocking how there are kids in this world that ACTUALLY need this type of treatment. I have just recently watched a Fox 6 TV News article on this. Now, this is a very controversial concept. I mean, they would shock you IF you swore (depending on why you are there)! There were also some very disturbing video fotage of children banging their heads against tables, hitting themselves, and even try to hurt others! They send about a 60 Watt shock into their body. There is a little irony to this although. A lot of the "officials" talked about its safty, and how it did not hurt. HOWEVER... one of the news correspondants (Spell?), tried it once and she JUMPED in pain and yelled. Although at most of these places they have games rewarded to play, a lot of new people to meet, isn't this a little harsh? Just think about it...

These places can be very different from each other. Some places are more like an arcade, whilst others are most like the crazy shack. Now here's the thing, there is some major 'difficulty' differences which makes a difference where many children may go. Sometimes at the 'crazy shack' like ones you have up to 5 or more elctro-thingies attached onto your body, and if you say even ANYTHING threatning, offensive, or vulgar... ZAP!! Ouch. Now at most of the 'arcade' like places, you have maybe one or 2, and would only be shocked for the reason you were there for. They usually send the more problematic children to the more intense one, whilst the younger/less problematic to the less intense one.

Now, you have to be pretty bad to be sent by law there... but children's parents almost need no proof whatsoever to send them to one. Now that is unfair, if one of their children maybe... hit someone? Sure, let's go with that. They could send him/her to one of the shock treatment facilities for up to two weeks! If you are sent by law, you must be a threat to you, and the people around you. Then you can be there until up to a year!

Not as good of an article as the Fox 6 Tv News one, but gives what you should know

Erm, what are "these places"? Medical facilities, schools, Chuck E. Cheese's? Nothing against the topic at all, but if you could find a link to an article about it, that would be great - not everyone has seen it on Fox. :)

look okay dis just proves that schools need boxing programs and more wrestling stuff too cuz when kids have a way to channel pent up rage we get all mellowed out cuz if you live in order to long chaos begins to take hold. I also agree this iz messed up (the shock treatment).

Frankly, if the terrible nonsense passed off as parenting has failed this badly in America, chances are the kids have done something to deserve it, but the parents ought to be plugged up right next to them.

You know, even though I had to read it twice, he's right. If schools had more outlets to channel energy and anger, then we would not have so damn many problems.
The worst part is, the schools are completely unwilling to try a new approach, they are entrenched in their, 'sit the fuck down for 8 hours and try and pay attention, with an hour brak for lunch. I mean Shit, If you count school, I've been working full time since I was 6 years old. THAT FUCKING SUCKS. These kids would learn more, and be more well adjusted if learning was fun.

The shit some people will do to their own flesh and blood.

I swear I just want to grab some people and shake them and yell in their face Hey! That's not some stranger that broke into your house, that's not some enemy who's out to get you - that's your fucking child! That's your own goddamn flesh and blood!

TheSpacePope 04-24-2006 08:06 PM

I totally agree, (and I know this was hyperbole) but if you grab them, the will just perscribe some mild anti-psycotics and send you on your way, because you are "unbalanced." It's the same as adults giving their children ritalin, or adderol is a better example because it is is 4 kinds of clinical methanphetamines. Here's your ritalin/adderol kids, don't do drugs.

Is that a joint?!
IN my House?!
Take you ritalin and go to your fucking room, we don't do drugs in this family.

*whoo, off topic rant.

But yea fifth is right, shocking your kids will never accomplish a damn thing, except making a generation of kids afraid to plug shit in.

Just because they are your child don't mean that you should take it easy. It's the contrary, you should be the first one to discipline them. But shocking is a little too harsh >_> Just a slap or two can solve anything <_<

Well I'll be a son-of-a-bitch! Shock treatment for kids? Yeah sure they had that chip implanted in Eric Cartmen, but it was a movie based on a comedy television show. It was fantasy, and knowing Cartman's character, funny. In real life however, it is not. I am pissed about this. Ever since I watched the movie "The Green Mile" and saw the guy getting electrocuted to death where his eyes were on fire because they didn't wet the sponge, I've been afraid of getting shocked period. Doing this to children, is sick and wrong. If they pull this shit, someone high up's gonna get it, period. And this shock therapy, it's like you're in a fucking loony bin! Now, I know I'm not crazy, and I don't want shock therapy from the guys in white who drag me to the happy hotel, and to do this to kids. God damn, I can't even think about it.

And worst of all, most of these kids brains are still developing. It could be catastrophic to many young children who are permanantly brain damaged or mentally altered because of some stupid shock therapy. I do not like where this is going, and it had better be banned in all 50 states of the USA. I won't stand for this, and if this happens, I dunno what I'd do.

We've made so much progress since child labor laws, let's not degress to something even more inhumane.

Dragonsbane 04-25-2006 06:44 PM

I'm inclined to admit that even if this is for severe cases, this is just ridiculously failed parenting.

Apparently, this also proves schools need to work harder instilling literacy into their students. How you managed to pass the first grade with spelling like that is a mystery on par with crop circles and the lost city of Atlantis.
