Day lights saving time
Me and my freind were talking about this, and she says that day lights savings time, was because the farmers wanted to rise with the sun so that they could so the maximum amount of work in the light. What I was told is that it was so the candels wouldent dissapear as quicly(by having more natural light in the day and blah, blah, blah). Does anyone know the truth of why, day lights savings time started?

Benjamin Franklin was in Paris when sunlight woke him up at 6:00. He had never seen it rise so early. He wanted everyone to still get as much sleep, so he set up daylight savings.

I've read that it was set up during WWI as a way to conserve energy during the longer summer months.

I'd say Flare's answer is the most credible, as she provided a link. Sure, wikipedia isn't the most credible source in the world, but I usually take it with a lesser dosage of salt than most places on the intarweb.

I always figured it was just because everyone's head would explode if our days were 24 hours and 1 minute long. I know mine would. |
You know why we have leap years?
So some motherfucker can cheat me out of a goddamn hour in the middle of Spring, that's why we have leap years. Quote:

Because some evil son of a bitch decided that everyone should lose one hour of their lives per day on warm seasons.
(seriously, the energy it saves is minimal. I DEMAND MY SLEEPING HOURS BACK, GAH!) |
But we get the hour back...we're just greedy. We don't care about mentioning the hour we get back and balances it out. I mean, you probably just played video games for the extra hour, didn't you? Tsk tsk, Jack is watching.
