I like the elves because the elves tend to be haughty and sarcastic. And that's just funny.

That's part of why I like Black Mage so much. The sarcasm.

Really, Elves just wouldn't seem like Elves to most people if they weren't arrogant.

Also, Jared and company, I'm not seeing your 'who can point out the most grammatical errors' thing being that big of a deal. If it's that important how 'bout taking it to PM or something so it doesn't spam up this topic with huge off topic posts on who's got the worst grammar.

Thief being half-elven
That would explain the overcompensating with being the most elven elf possible(the IRS for example) and the issues with kleptomania and the currently ambiguous sexuality(Fighter and BM straight, RM expirience and chocobos it seems, Thief ???)

Lucis 04-05-2006 03:57 PM

That's another thing; Thief is innovative and is an equal-opportunity con-artist. Elves usually just go around screwing over other elves, rather than deigning to con other races (I could imagine elves justifying this by saying "sullying my skills taking away a human's pittance is beneath my elven dignity".) Thief will steal from anyone and everyone he crosses paths with, and even maintains overseas bank accounts; overseas accounts that would have to be managed by humans, monsters or even (gasp!) dwarves in order to be overseas. After all, all Elves live in Elfland, and thus they wouldn't be "overseas" accounts if they were in his homeland.

You raise some good points, greed. I didn't even bother to think of those.

greed 04-05-2006 04:06 PM

Thanks mate
One thing though, I don't reckon Thief would have accounts in Dwarfland, not that I think he isn't mercenary enough to do so for enough profit(or any really), but he always specified the accounts as overseas I thought Dwarfland was on the same continent as Elfland.
I could be wrong though, Sarda's teleport happy attitude at the time makes the geography a bit confusing and it's been a while since I've been through the archives.

Okay, okay, I'll stop correcting. Just don't say "WTF"..

Thief probably is half human. I mean... what elf do you know of that's as big as a well-trained and well-built Black Belt?!

and... eugh. I'm sad to say that we've all been through the sexuality of both RM and Thief. Thief is bisexual. Which explains why he forced RM into a problem with his gender/sexuality/mother or whatever.... I can never remember these things. RM is... well, he does things with Thief, at least. Dunno if he likes girls. He seems to be a "pansexual", or whatever that term was, used in the sexuality topic. I wouldn't say RM would have a problem with doing a chocobo for the better of his character.

[Edit]
It's been an ongoing theory since I started reading the comic, but I'm sure Thief started stealing because of his father's illness, and not because it would earn him money. Once his father is fully-healed and paid for, I doubt he'll want to charge people. and how often does he charge people now, anyway? Since the class change, at least. My small thesis (mentioned twice on these boards before) on their class changes wouldn't support the idea of Thief stealing for money. He'd steal for bigger things as a dual class thief ninja. At least I'd assume..

I respectfully disagree. If you haven't noticed, Thief's father has recovered, and Doctor Malpractice has fled the Kingdom of Elfland. Since the King of Elfland has fully recovered, and Doctor Malpractice was conspiring with a traitor, Chancellor Usurper, the King could just declare any debts owed by the Kingdom of Elfland to Doctor Malpractice for his "services" null and void. Furthermore, Matoya got screwed out of her payment and there's nothing she can legally do about it, so the Kingdom of Elfland owes her nothing, as well. I'd dare say the Kingdom of Elfland doesn't owe anybody anything, so Thief has no reason to steal from anyone now.

However, he still steals from Red Mage and keeps the Earth Orb for himself, 'cuz it's valuable. He also says "he's been busy" and refuses to stop stealing even though he's been directly confronted with the point you bring up. I'd dare say Thief will never stop stealing - it's part of who he is, what he exists to do. Thief is his name, after all.

Plus, he lost a fortune of mythic proportions thanks to the plan that stopped Kary. He's gotta replace it somehow.

Flarecobra 04-05-2006 05:39 PM

Thief doesn't have the Earth Orb. Sarda has it, as seen after they recovered the fire orb.

Lucis 04-05-2006 05:47 PM

I stand corrected. I believe you're referring to this comic, yes?

Wait, what? Sexuality topic? I missed that one. What's the link to it?

Jared Todd 04-05-2006 09:50 PM

For the sexuality link, For the Thief being bisexual thread.
