Piercing

I just recently got my left cartlige pierced, and they put a ring in at first and not a stud, which I thought was normal for almost any piercing. But anyway, my point was its the third, fourth I guess, night, I got it in Tuesday. It hurts tonight more than any of the other, is this normal? I was told to just take regular soap, like Dial or whatever, and just gently scrub around it twice a day. Ive been doing this, its weird and not very fun feeling, yea.

But tonight was worse. It just hurt alot mroe trying to apply the soap around the ring then the previous nights. Is this normal or have I not been applying it correctly and it could be infected?

Im sure this is nothing and just a stupid question...but its better to be safe and stupid than sorry, and if I am doing something wrong Id like to find out sooner than later.

Well, you may be having an allergic reaction to the metal. What is it?

Crodevillian Team 04-21-2006 08:09 AM

Go back to the piercer. If they're reputable, they can tell you what's wrong.

LilVikingboy 04-21-2006 08:31 AM

I'm not sure which type of metal, but I dont think Im allergic to anything at all.

Yea, I might go back if it continues. Im thinking it may be accidentally sleeping on it and not knowing, or small random bumps of it during the day.

It was a tattoo/body piercing place. Clean place, wore gloves, all the precautions. Plus the guy had about 15 piercings himself so I assume he knew what he was doing.

Rezero 04-22-2006 12:32 AM

What? You don't know the metal type? Seriously, that's one of the first things you should check out. Gold and stainless steel are the best, allergic reactions to those are rare. Silver gets some people, and you shouldn't do platinum because its porus and will fuse to the skin in your ear. But yea, what Crode said. If the piercer is good, they'll tell you what's up.

LilVikingboy 04-22-2006 12:07 PM

I'm pretty sure it isn't the ring, I have no allergic reactions to any other thing in the world. Also, I'm fairly sure it was the way I was "washing" it. When my brother came back I had him look at it. It was red and bit swollen. I had HIM wash it, so he wouldn't stop when pain was felt. If it continued I'd go to the piercer.

He did it 2-3 times just last night, gooped soap on it and rubbed all over, especially the very sore parts where the ring goes in. The pain started to receed some last night, woke up today and it feels much better. Sure it still hurts to touch and poke around there but I assume that's normal.

Just have to keep up the intense scrubbing and it should be painless and normal fairly soon, Id hope. For those of you that have a piercing here, how long did it take of this to be able to actually sleep on that ear and feel normal lol.

Thanks for all the help, guys.

Hey, just a word of warning you better have not baught the really cheap earrings, because those are usually made of lead and lead is bad.

Althane 04-22-2006 03:09 PM

I assume you mean lead. leAd.

Pb in the periodic table? The element that people mostly associate with lead posining and lead pies used in plubming?

Yeah, people know that's deadly, and that's why you're only allowed about 3 parts per billion or so in the water (it's actually more than you might think. Think about how many billions of atoms of water you drink in one cup).

But, yeah, people know that's NOT for use in earrings, you'd have to go to some really shitty place to get LEAD earrings.

shiney 04-22-2006 05:12 PM

Pretty sure you mean poisoning and plumbing.

Just for reference.

misterchainsaw 04-22-2006 06:29 PM

Well, yes I'm sure people are aware that lead is bad for you, but there was an article a few years back, about how a girl baught a lead necklace and got lead poisoning, so there(newspapers) warning was that you shouldent buy jewlery under 5$.
