Wasn't Kefka like that because of the early magicite experiments done on him by the empire?
I've always wondered what he was like before he went insane. Quote:
I loved LeChuck because he fits so well in the Monkey Island series, especially in MI3. But I liked Adrian because of his constant dispassionate attitude, with sudden moments of sadistic, psychotic violence. Of FF villians, I myself was a little partial to Kuja for swooping down atop his white dragon with his heavy theme song playing. But of everyone, I don't think that there is anyone as menacing as Grahf, the Emperor of Power from Xenogears. I'm only on the first disc, so I'm still pretty sure I haven't even met the archvillian just yet, but any encounters with him, Id, and Wiseman have pretty much left me in awe. |

How could I miss Id and Grahf? And the entire game in general had some pretty awesome foes. I am so jealous of you right now, for what you are experiencing for the first time. And most of FFT thrown in as well. Man, that game was filled with evil bastards. The Wandering God |

I also wonder how Kefka was like before he went mad, although I could imagine a much more... 'quiet philosopher' type (maybe not 'quiet', but...), especially considering what he says at the end of the game. But that's just me and my unusually usual thought processes. |
Saint Dane from the Pendragon series. He's a scheming, lying, shape-shifter, who just won't give up. SPOILERS BELOW. He gets more desperate, but he still is a powerful villain.
I really hate when he kills Loor, then she just pops back up again, like nothing happened. It really cheapens death. |
Anybody mentioned Dhaos from Tales of Phantasia? 'Cos if they haven't, I'd like to. I personally consider him nearly up there with Chrono Trigger's Magus--burying the needle on the badassometer.
Wonderful little line from the end of the game, just before he gets cheesed by your party (which I might not recall verbatim, but which stuck in my mind for the most part): "Do I look like some kind of tree-hugger to you?" |
Speaking of Tales of Phantasia, my favorite villan from there is your own party. Seriously, anyone who's played it, just think about who the bad guys are. :P

Indeed. Hurrah for moral complexity in the RPG genre! The good guys aren't always right.

Shang Tsung. Yeah, he has no dignity and will beg to get back back on someone's good side, but he'll still stab you in the back and take your soul when he gets a chance. |
The. Fucking. Anti-Monitor.

"The Black Wind begins to howl...alright, show me what you got!"
Every time I saw that, I kept seeing the anime portrait drawn of him, eyes closed in thoughtful meditation, wind sweeping his hair in all directions, his back carelessly turned to Crono and the gang... oh shit. So much awesome. Alright, let's all give props to Lex Luthor ala original Superman movies. The guy doesn't have shit for powers, but he's fucking brilliant, and sadistically evil. You have to give the guy props for giving shit to a man who is fucking invincible. Also, Beast Wars and G1 Megatron. BW Megs had that streak of sadistic evil fucker in him, and it mixed well with his carefully planned plots that nearly always work until the Maximals fuck him up/his allies betray him. And he thorougly(sp) enjoys every delicious moment of evilness. And G1 Megatron was a cold, calculating, evil, megalomaniac bastard in his own right. I never liked Galvatron much. Anyone who would go that fucking batshit loco and blast a dead body of Rodimus Prime for the ump-teenth time (Matrix Quest, Marvel Transformers comic) out of sheer rage doesn't need to be a leader. Also, I'm probably going to be the only person on this page to say it, but I gotta give props to Erim/Iris from Lufia II. She really wasn't working both sides for 'fools,' she was operating on both sides because she was simply curious if human beings really did operate in the flow of time separate from divine beings, such as the Sinistrals themselves. Everything she did, ALL of it, in the guise of Iris was merely to find out if humans could act separately from gods. And in the end, she really didn't care about any of it, except for Maxim, whom (it's reasoned to believe) she loved. Nothing's cooler than ambiguous villans, especially ones who's alter ego is "The Mistress of Death." |
