Ingenium Academy

2 Attachment(s)
"Welcome to Ingenium Academy, lads and lasses," the somewhat portly man says with a wide smile across his face--the kind you would expect to see on a snake-oil salesman or a con-man, yet his words ring true to what you know. "As ye all know, this here is the premier training grounds for valiant warriors, amazing mages, and, above all--heros of all shapes and sizes. Please follow me!"

The man turns and walks through the large portcullis and into the courtyard. Around you there are various buildings of differing sizes, as well as outdoors 'sports' arenas. To your left you see a pair of older boys kick-boxing in a sand circle with a few older men giving them pointers, while to your right there appears to be some kind of archery competition--which, by the looks of things--a young woman is easily dominating, and, all around are students and teachers moving about, carrying both weapons and books, as they rush from class to class. Your keen eyes make out a few cliques rather quickly--under a tree a short distance away, and watching the half-undressed kick boxers, are a group of beautiful teenage women with an almost palpable aura of arrogance around them--some distance further out, leaning against a wall are a group of students sneering at passerbys and roughing up the occassional new wizard, who, themselves seem to be congregating near the entrance to what seems to be a library.

Before you can take in much more, however, the portly man interrupts your thoughts, "Quite the grand place, eh? That there," the man points, "Is where we teach magic... although most of you probably won't make it in there. Those forces are too dangerous, even to the wielder, to be letting just anyone study them, you see. And that," he says pointing to the archery contest, which seems to be just ending, "is the archery grounds where you'll be learning to use bows, crossbows, slings, and maybe even how to throw pebbles, dependin' on what yer suited for..."

The man rambles on a bit more, pointing out each building, and you eventually stop paying attention as his voice becomes commonplace. The school is simply too large to be taken in all in one day, and soon you find yourself wishing for a bed, just as the man arrives at the largest building yet. He gestures toward the door, "And this concludes our tour with the dorms, where you'll all be staying. Norman, the man at the desk, should give you each your room number and send you on your way. Be sure to sleep well, because tomorrow your classes begin."

The Ingenium Academy is rather famous for training its students in the art of war. Many great warriors, mages, and spellswords have come from its doors, but, unfortunately, so have many infamous murderers, witches, and thieves. The school seems to take a neutral stance on the morality of its students, even though it claims outwardly to create only heros.

This has brought down some fire on the school from civilians and even some kingdoms. However, it hasn't slowed its attendence, as many young men and women enter its fold. Some with parental consent, some as run-aways, and some old enough to decide on their own. Some dream of fame, some fortune, some power, and some seek its training to find revenge.

The school takes no notice of these motivations however. The headmaster sees it as his duty to spread knowledge. How that knowledge is used is not his concern.

You'll all be first year trainees in this school, and most of the students are in their mid-teens to early twenties, although they span almost all ages.

Name: (dur)
Age: (the school accepts any age over seven, however if you're playing a child or an old man, I expect you to do so well)
Gender: (again, dur)
Appearance: (whatcha look like)
Bio: (why you're here--doesn't have to be amazing, just not stupid)

Note: Equipment for most first years will be non-existant. What you have the school will provide for you. If you really MUST be the exception with your super powerful magic sword passed down generations of the family line, ask me. I'll probably say no, but ask me anyway--who knows, I might let you have it. Even if it is just to get it stolen later and used to create a little sidequest that may or may not retrieve your weapon

Also, 'class' and personality will be decided in RP. It's understood most of you will be pretty green in most things the school teaches. If you aren't green in an area it should be in your bio (like if you lived as a thief for awhile, you'd have some skill in infiltration).

Welcome to the world of Tumulus. It's a medieval world, with kingdoms and knighthoods. The Ingenium Academy exists somewhere roughly in the middle of the known world (roughly analogus to the south of France in out own world), and is considered its own country. It allows anyone to join its fold, whether they be peasant or nobility, however, the nobility generally avoid it, as they have their own ways to train (squires and apprenticeships) without mingling with the unwashed masses.

Name: Steve Godrun

Age: 16

Gender: Male

Appearance: Brown hair, deep green eyes, tanned skin, fit, but not muscular. Wears weather-worn cotton shirt and pants, a vest with many custom pockets sewn on, and soft-soled boots.

Bio: His father and mother both being merchants, Steve was bombarded with facts, figures, and trading info. Learning to hate the merchant life, he snuck out one night to find adventure, and decided to start with the basics.

That good? If not, tell me what I need to add/change. Also, please note I will be going to schoo, and will more than likely post sometime between 5 or 8 EST on weekday, usually around 7.

Raiden 05-01-2006 11:18 PM

Name: Thomas Allthorn
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Appearance: Blond hair that goes down to below his ears, piercing blue eyes, 6'2" tall with a lean muscular build. Wears brown trousers and an open white shirt with ruffles.
Bio: Thomas is the son of a family of nobles, the Allthorns. They always wished to have a hero in the family, and they figured Thomas would be a good one as any. He was given a few fencing lessons before being sent, so he has a bit of experience with sword play.

Raiden and Neyo accepted, although you're both going to be slightly old for first years.

When I said the average student is mid-teens to early twenties, I mean they usually sign up at fifteen or sixteen and train until their early twenties.

Not a problem at all, just thinking I might have worded that poorly.

Raiden 05-01-2006 11:35 PM

Meh, changed it to 17. still be a little old, but not that old.

Mesden 05-02-2006 12:47 AM

Name: Carolina De Castro Belardo

Age: 16

Gender: Female

Appearance: She stands at 5'7, with long black hair the trails to her shoulderblades. She has the looks of a runner, given her shapely, strong to the eye legs. Her eyes give off such a pale blue that at sight they look gray. She's scrappy looking, not a typical nice girl, but not hard to approach either.

Bio: Somewhat of a street urchin by choice. Her family held a large cooking establishment in Rome and tried to force her into a life of baking, but by her own choice she set out on her own path and found herself here.

Truce 05-02-2006 01:09 AM

Name: Curel Irving
Age: 15
Gender: Male
Appearance: At 5'5", he's shorter than the rest of his family. Tan skin, short orange hair, and black eyes make for an easily recognizeable profile.
Bio: His mother had graduated from the academy herself, and saw it fit to send her one and only son there to become a hero. However, though she herself had trained to be a mage, it seems that he has shown little interest in following that path.

TheBlindMime 05-02-2006 03:29 AM

Name: Piotr Hendricks
Age: 13
Gender: Male

Appearance: In a word, imposing. Piotr is quite large for a 13 year old, in fact with his nearly constant stubble that he appears to be a hair over 17. Standing at 5'9" and looking as solid as a rock with an ever present grimace on his face, Piotr always seems to appear quite; imposing and thats the word.*

Bio: In a clandestine move of fate, the rather large Piotr was born into the family of farmers. He always worked hard to till the land but he felt the simple life he was handed was less then adequate, while he spent his days working the fields he spent his nights studying a dictionary, the only book his family could get their hands on. He had worked his way all the way up to F with relative success until his village was attacked.

Piotr had managed to survive the attack, but only because he ran. He ran faster and harder then anyone else in his town could, because he was the only one who made it to safety. He had only seen one figure clearly before he made his getaway, the man had been a sorceror. After returning to the tattered village, Piotr gathered what few things he could before he set off towards Ingenium Academy. Piotr had affirmed to himself that he would avenge his loved ones paying no heed to the detriment he would suffer.

*blast you steven colbert.

I would just like to reserve a spot, if possible. I don't really have time on my hands lately, so I don't quite know when I can get back onto a computer.

Incendius 05-02-2006 05:30 AM

I would like to do the same as Lazy Man... curse you and you insomniacs!

Also I have a question, how does magic function in this world? Is it somewhat like a Vancian system (D&D) or other?
