Pimp-fants
http://theedge.bostonherald.com/life...36&format=text
What parent in their right mind would buy into this new style? Every day I find the intrusion of the rap culture on our lives more and more insulting. Well, it might not be rap culture itself that's causing this, but it's not doing anything to stop it. "My mom is a MILF"? I mean come on. Do babies really even care what they're wearing? I don't see them complaining when twins in strollers end up wearing the exact same blue overalls. |
I honestly hate the bastardization and subsequent glorifying of the term "pimp." Pimps are not cool. They're purveyors of prostitution, which is probably the most degrading and disgusting... "business" known to humanity. Anyone who styles themselves after pimps or glorifies them or what they do is an idiot. I'm not all that fond of calling people idiots, but they are just plain stupid.
I'm of a firm mind that sex exists solely for the purpose of reproduction, and the fact that it's pleasurable is only an instinctual response to ensure that we keep doing it and don't give up propagating our species. Using sex solely for pleasure is reprehensible to me. Pimps not only encourage recreational sex, but have even made a BUSINESS of it. Talk about defeating the purpose: not only is prostitution unhealthy, degrading, immoral, disgusting, and low-paying, but it totally flies in the face of what sex was designed for; propagating the species. Pimps only add to the unsavory nature of the "business" by treating the prostitutes like slaves, acting like human trash, and being the absolute worst salesmen in existence on top of it all. Anyone who can find it in their hearts to glorify that kind of filth is an idiot. Now, parents are glorifying pimps via their children's clothing. Yeah, I believe that styles for baby-clothes are horribly limited as it stands. I'm sick of seeing babies in whites and pastels, wearing embroidered duckies and bunnies and other cutesy crap. But this is ridiculous. There's a line between "encouraging variety" and "degrading your children," and this Pimpfants crap easily crosses it. I'm so glad that the concept of "style" and "fashion" are learned, and that babies apparently aren't born with them. Otherwise, I'm sure a whole lot more babies would be growing up traumatized thanks to this poor excuse for a clothing line. Quote:
Pardon the rant, but the vitriol was just boiling over as I read that article. *wipes some off chin* |

No really, I do. I mean, to draw an allegory, food is meant to keep us alive. Tasting good is just a side effect to make sure we keep eating and don't, you know, die. Goddamn those restaurants for encouraging recreational eating habits and making a BUISNESS out of them! Seriously--there are better reasons to hate pimps. For instance: Bordello owners are generally not referred to as pimps. The people who are are the ones who have street whores. And not high class street whores. Pimp is generally used to mean a man who not only has whores, but is taking advantage of poor women and FORCING them into this line of work. A pimp is someone who practices female sexual slavery and beats women who don't suck enough cock. Considering these are people who get poor, destitute, and desperate women hooked on crack and then backhand them into sucking cock just so they can get their next white line hating them on the basis that you find recreational sex immoral is... well, it just seems silly. Quite possibly the worst reason to hate pimps ever. It's like hating Slobodan Milosevic because he threw around cuss words, instead of the whole genocide thing. THAT all said--on the topic: Why do we care what kids are wearing again? Didn't we have this discussion once? Maybe not about pimp-fants, exactly, but I believe we did talk about children dressing stupid before. I believe this discussion, like that one, will just come down to a bunch of empty ranting and raving about 'them damn kids these days' from half the forum while the other half is all like, "Who cares? No really, who gives a shit?" |
Honestly I sort of consider pimps and moralists to be two sides of the same coin, as both are in the business of objectifying and commodifying sexuality.
I mean whether you're calling yourself a bear or a bull, you're still working the same market. As to the clothing, I expect it will be a big seller amongst the plastic-spinner-hubcaps set. |
My faith in humanity is officially gone.

Fifth, your new avatar is like a flame in my eyes. Burning the very retinas.
On topic, I am of the opinion that... As long as you are mature enough, you should be able to wear whatever you want. The problem here, specifically, is that babies have no way of knowing that. Of course, this could work out is some sort of weird reverse psychology and the kid might grow up to be ultra-conservative. Anyway, I would think parent's would dress up their kid in ways they think are funny and/or cute. Unfortunately, some parents don't really have a keen grasp of what these are. And I'm not saying everyone should agree with me, but how many people really equate sex to humor? (Okay, well I do, but then again, I'm a 23 year old male with no kids. When you have a kid, that means being mature and acting responsible. And being mature means that you try not to do that in front of kids. If they eventually turn out that way, try and let it be because that's the way they would have developed regardless.) I'm more concerned about parents being so shallow as to try and make their kids look trendy. It has overtones of, "Look at what I have". Instead of, "Look at my child." It emphasizes a certain look, and really, babies just don't care. The parents are doing it for themselves. The Wandering God |
Fifth's avatar is just Chloe ala Chugworth Academy. I kinda like it.
But I miss "Chicks Dig Experience," alot. On topic; I'm more or less with Krylo and Lucis. Sex is fun, of course, and it's not bad to be used recreationally, but the fact that people can say "That's totally pimp!" and its used as a compliment is fucking ludicrious. |

Once you understand the psychology, it's less like dressing little people like that, and more like dressing a dog in something that says "McPimp" with a picture of McGruff in a pimp hat... you know, I seriously need to make that shirt. For both dogs and humans. It'd so sell. ANYWAY, my point being that infants do not and can not, on any level, understand that they are wearing something that might be offensive. They don't even know it says pimp on their shirt. There's nothing about the way the child feels involved in this, because the child, really, doesn't feel anything but basic human instincts at these ages. Now if you're dressing four, five, and even three year olds, like this it gets a bit murkier, because the kid is actually becoming (or has become) a human, mentally. Quote:
That arguement could be just as (or more) easily used to encourage not putting children in any kind of clothing, or at least nothing with any kind of decoration on them. Parents are using that horrible cutsey bear crap for themselves too. The baby has no idea what it's wearing, and even if it did, do you think ANY self-respecting human being, regardless of age, would want to wear half the stuff people put babies in? |

The first time I saw the Pimp-Fant thing I was thinking "Is this for real??" and I started laughing. I'm pretty sure most reactions will be like this at first. But, like everyone will agree is that when they see the word "Pimp" and they will think of sex, which, having sexual writing on shirts, can be offensive to people. I don't think they will be so offended that they will say to the parent "Take that thing off the baby??" or start making that big of a deal about it. So, I think it's pretty funny at first, but it kinda looks offensive to people who actually see the shirt. |
