WoW Cheating ads on NPF?

A minute ago i saw an ad for this website in the corrupted wish thread.

This is the banner i saw.

Am i to assume WoW cheating is supported by you guys now? Or was this just a mistake? Either way i think an explanation is warranted.

And if what i said sounded blunt sorry but i, as well as alot of others on this forum, have no tolerance for this type of thing.

Whoa-hoaa, look out internet! Advertising is on the loose!

Seriously though, it's just a banner advert. The banner ads are brought to you by Google. Adverts shown are selected by catergory, not content, so if you see something you don't like, try not to take it to heart.

Often, when an advertiser places ads on the site, the site owner has no opportunity to preview these ads and ensure that they're kosher. As a result, sometimes disagreeable ads are displayed by unscrupulous advertisers on perfectly legitimate sites.

Keep this in mind: Internet advertising is like your average infomercial. "The views expressed by the advertiser are not the views of the site being advertised on." Or something like that.

Yeah, google automatically searches the words in the forum, and then delivers ads that it thinks people looking at such content would enjoy.

For instance, in Jenneral's "I'm not gonna be here much" thread she mentioned quails. As a result google ads stuck a banner up that advertised quail meat for sale.

If I were to say World of Warcraft a bunch of times, the ad would randomly show up in this thread too. Especially if I were to mention cheating and gold as well.

World of Warcraft Cheating and Gold.

World of Warcraft Cheating and Gold.

Now let's see how many WoW cheat sites pop up in banners here.

Ah that explains it. See what i thought was that Pierre controlled the ads much like Dave from Bob and George controls his ads. My bad.

Sweet deal!

Goat porn.
Goat porn.
Goat porn.

Come on...come on...

EDIT: Hmmm, I wonder if there's much goat porn in this "Avatar of Night" book...

What's great is that it's just ads for advertising services now. Best system ever!

Only the ads for the main page are controlled. All of the ads on the forums are done through Google Ads, so there's little chance of control.

Actually, outside of the Google Ads and other such automated ads, they have complete control, and get to see everything before they put it up. Because the advertiser can't alter the html and php to put the ad up on the site, the webmaster of said site has to. The only reason something unsavory would come up is if the website staff is lazy, and don't bother checking first.

Ironically, the ads in this thread are now ads...for advertising.

Go figure.

They sure are, Shiney. They sure are.....

Still, as has been alluded to by others before me, the idea of making a thread with a specific subject that is beyond ridiculous and/or obscene just for the purpose of seeing what ads it would summon is rather intriguing. Of course, seeing as I like it here, getting banned in the name of SCIENCE doesn't really seem like it would be worth it. Oh well.
