how long until you start walking?

well, gas prices are going higher and higher. How long will it be until you have to give up using your car and find another cheaper form of transportation?

TheSpacePope 05-14-2006 01:56 PM

All I know is that I need a bike.

Osterbaum 05-14-2006 01:57 PM

Well, I'm not using a car. Yet. I will be by the end of june.

So right now, I haven't been following gass prices all that much; I understand they have gone slightly up here too, but are right now at a steady point. I certainly hope they won't be SO high that my driving will end before it begins.

But, in the end I do think it wouldn't be such a big deal for me to start walking again and using public transportation. Maybe it would even be better for everyone. More exercise, less car usage and so less pollution.

Well, not too long. It's eating a hole in what little money I have to spare.

Jogging to places is my next step. Maybe a bike.

For crap's sake, gas prices are not that high! $30 to go 100 miles in a very fuel inefficient car ($3 for a gallon and 10 miles to the gallon.)? WHAT A RIP-OFF!

maybe not for you, but for the rest of us who can barely pay the bills, it is too high. You can tell when it gets to be too much when people start to pawn their stuff for a couple tanks of gas.

I don't even know if i'll buy a car anymore...if the dammed governments(sp?) searched for alternative fuel but no, they have to suck until the last drop of petrol...

Actually, a hydrogen powered car has just been finished, and works fine as far as the makers know. Right now, if it was for sale, it would be over a million dollars, but they want it to be a main energy source later for cars. Apparently cars don't run as fast with hydrogen, though. A person that drove one said that it felt "sluggish."

Lockeownzj00 05-14-2006 02:58 PM

Hydrogen powered technology has had the potential to be ready and on the market for years. But that would effecitvely eliminate a certain unnamed lucrative industry which relies on drilling fossil fuels. It's simple--they ain't gonna let it happen just like that.

Personally, I prefer walking and taking the subway/bus to go to places. It's very good excercise(sp?) and I bet you would lose a lot less money in a month(like, a bus/subway pass is 62$ a month and 30$ if you're a student(in Montréal)) when some people put over 50$ worth of gas in their tanks each WEEK( I would just like to point out that gas prices are higher in Canada, Québec: can go up to 1,20$ the LITER, which translates in almost 5$ the gallon(4 liters in a gallon).

I agree that the situation is becoming more and more unbarable(sp?), and this is mostly the main reason in which I do not wish to buy a car. It's also good for the environnement. I know it's LONG, but hey, I prefer waiting after a bus than losing half of my pay check in a week.
