Inexperienced Mafia: The Learnening
This is a very, very simple game designed to teach new players the nuances of NPF Mafia.
The role breakdown and the roles each player receives are purely random. The options for role breakdown are: 2 Mafia, 1 PO, 5 Citizens General Rules:
Don't...
Voting:
Remember: Death posts do not implicate specific people in the game as suspects. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me. If you would like to be a replacement, you can post so in the thread or via PM. Mafia Rules: There is a town, a mafia. The town does not know who everyone is. The mafia do know each other, and are a team. The game has two phases. Day and Night. During day the town votes to lynch scum (Scum=Mafia). (Or if you're scum, try to prevent from being lynched.) During night, people send in night roles with special abilities if they have them. A PO/Police Officer is a player who can check one player at night, and find out what their role is. A BG/Doctor (Bodyguard) is a player who can protect one player a night from being killed by the mafia other than themselves. The game ends when one team is the last one standing. If you have any other questions, ask away. Experienced (Don't ask me, I'll ask you) 1. Newb 2. 3. TheSpacePope Inexperienced (Now you can PM me) 4. Supreme Edgemaster 5. grthwllms 6. Patrat 7. dojindog 8. Demonlink2 |
EDIT: All roles sent out. I'm going to start on Day 1 because I want everybody to have a chance to play and doing a Night 1 start is usually the same situation.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The small class of eight students gathered into the cramped classroom and sat in their assigned seats, eager for today's lessons. Classes at Ingenium Academy were usually fun, but the magic classes were the best. A wizened old man strode to the front desk and produced eight cards which, after some arcane hand waving, became emblazoned with equally mysterious sigils. "Today, class, we shall play a game to test your wits and logic skills. Each card is assigned a role and I assume you have read up on the basic rules. Now, I have cast a temporal timesorc'ley spell on this room to accurately simulate the Day and Night cycle, but I promise no deaths shall occur under my watch." As he speaks the cards fly into your hands, and as you turn them over the sigil glows brightly before disappearing off the page, your new 'role' telepathically implanted into your head. "Now, before we begin...hmm, that feels odd..." As he muses over something you can't understand a fuzzy feeling consumes your body and in a dazzling display of light you cease to be for a second, before reconstructing into a new locale. Your memories of Ingenium fading, you realize you have no idea who these people surrounding you are, but one thing is clear: not all of them are your friends. Back at the academy the wizard sits confused, his class of students gone. "I wonder if the temporal effects intermingled with the profile sigils, causing a split singularity to be formed to occupy the new mindsets? If that were so, the students would subconciously assume the roles on the paper and act them out...including the killing at Night. Oh, this could get bad..." IT IS NOW DAY 1. 5 TO LYNCH. NO DEADLINE YET. |
Okay, with the voting situation, we have a 1/4 to hit a mafiate, 1/8 to hit the town role, and 5/8 to hit a townie.
There are advantages and disadvantages to lynching today. Advantages The game ends faster We might get lucky and take out one of the two mafiates even before they get the chance to kill. Disadvantages The game ends faster We have no leads, and are more likely to hit an innocent townie than anything else. The usual trend of such debates Voting no-lynch is never a good option because lynching is the town's only weapon. It is very easy for the mafia to twist the votes away from themselves and get in two kills instead of just one. Now that you know the two main choices, I'm going to step back and let you newer guys make the decision. Each of you five inexperienced guys just say yes or no, would you like to kill somebody today, and then as an entire town we can decide who is the unlucky winner. To Mesden and Spacepope: I request that as a courtesy to the new guys, you just put forwards any more information you can think of that would help them decide whether they want to kill on day one. You can go ahead and ignore me if you like though. |
Well, my experience is solely based around the opposing view of the town.
I think like a Mafiate. Now don't let this lead you into automatically assuming my filth, but I AM making a point. Manipulation is a powerful, powerful tool. It's the main reason I'm considered a vet. Newb, on the other hand, has the advantage of knowing the town's workings, as I've only ever seen him as a townie. Now, back to manipulation. This is not only a tool used by the mafia, mind you. As in the 2nd game, I happened to be an "Other Alligned" role of Cult Leader. I had no clue who were the mafia, at first that is. During the entire game I was, of course, completely against the town as well. So, I had to find a way to stay on their good side. THAT is manipulation as well. Not just getting people to lynch who you want, but to get them to believe you. Use this weapon as much as possible, yes, even for vanilla townies. Next comes the matter of lynching. I ENCOURAGE you to lynch everyday. Take your time, yes, but DO NOT waste a lynch as this is our ONLY was to eliminate mafiates. Mafia will always have underlying purposes with every post. It's YOUR job to find them. I won't be sore if I am the first to lynch, as, it's one more person out of the way and it increases our chances. And finally, use your words wisely. A well worded post does wonders to making you look far more believable. This is for Mafia and Town alike. I'm here to give ALL of you advice and those who be mafia are as new as the rest(Of course, unless all 3 vets are mafia). Words are the most powerful weapon. More powerful than the night killing powers of the mafia. Because, not only can they eliminate a person, but they can also save you. Making them that more important. I give you the advice that the adversary should know as well. Good game and may whichever side win. Until then, I shall be a bit more unorthodox this game. FOS: Everyone We all have the same chance to be a mafia, so I will use the statistics to cast doubt on all, yes, including myself. |
I actually don't have much to add other than; Mesden is correct, Your words mean everything. Be careful what you say because it can and will be held against you.
Other tips might be, voting for someone to see how they react. You can also FoS them in that situation. FoS= Finger of suspiscion. Anyway that is about it for tips, Newbs post is about the best intro that I have seen and it is certianly more informed than I ever was. Good luck |
Yes we should most definetly lynch today it's always good to start out on the right foot:)
|
Hmmm, well we don't have muc to go on, as you are the ionly one who has posted. I propose we get this thing started soon.

The eeasiest way to get things started is to openly accuse someone.
So here goes. Dojindog, you seem very interested in killing someone even, though every townie is important to the survival of the town during the game. (I know, redundancy galore) But instead of just saying, 'ok everyone, it's time to lynch someone.' Come up with a plausable theory. Like this; There are eight players in the game. 2 of them are dangerous to the town. One of them has the ability to gather information on the other players, I hope that person will be doing that tonight to the most suspiscious, non-lynched person of course. Obviously, If we lynch someone, we have a statistical chance of hitting a mafiate, but only a 25% chance, we have a roughly 15% chance of hitting the police officer and then a 60% chance of hitting a townie. Kind of takes the fun out of a random lynch. So here is what you do, You say, FoS: Dojindog, and I say that because I am suspiscious of your wanting to kill someone so quickly. Now you have a chance to defend yourself, i.e. give me reasons why you are not a mafiate, and try and sway my opinion. Avoid a roleclaim until all hope is lost. Just remember that everything that you say can and will be held against you in the vigilant eyes of the other posters. Good luck and happy hunting. Note: I edited this post to put in two commas, this is generally a bad Idea, I just thought it read funny without them |
First an apology for my short answer I read what Newb said and thought that he had meant for us to start out simply Yes or No.
My defenses against the mighty FoS are A. I knew that regardless of whether or/not I said Yes/No lynch I would be just as succeptible to blame as anyone else who posted first (plus I got the thread moving). and B. Yes I may have decided that killing someone quickly would be most effective but, on the inside we all want to kill someone in the most brutal way possible. To deny such an urge is unhealthy. On a different note though Space Pope is one to talk about placing the blame quickly picking on lil' ol' me so I in turn point a FoS:TheSpacePope Fake Edit: I'm not so good at remembering names |
I took Logic, so I found it easy to put things into perspective.
Having read through everything stated, dojindog seems to be eager to kill someone. Newb's post said mafiates often twist the vote around to get in 2 kills. As theSpacePope stated, we've a fairly high chance of hitting a mafiate-25%-but another high chance of hitting a townie-60%-and then there's the P.O.-15% chance-that we are risking hitting. Taking into consideration everything stated as of thus only leads to FoS:dojindog. This is my take; use it against me if you please. |
