The Spore - Thread - 2

I created this because a Lot happend for spore since the last thread about this closed...

Now i've seen Robin Willians explaining the game... ( and HELL YEAH i liked :D )

Creatures aprently will be 1 to 4 Mb size each... as opposed the 2-10 kb it was said earlier...

So it seens that over 70% of the game's content is PC generated... and the rest is "Shared" online via download

There is a trading cards feature that expands into Cellphone game

The Skinning system was explained and it looks great...

We learned more about the "sandbox" features of the game, and the limitations that our creations will find

More Screenshots, more videos, closer to the launch date...

How much do you love spore now?

Azisien 05-20-2006 04:42 PM

Could you perhaps actually cite some of the "new flaws" on Spore? Namely the enormous increase in file sizes. Because I've watched videos of Will Wright in multiple interviews, even newer ones, where he's going on about the compressability of files to allow for huge databases.

And I still love Spore, even if I was more heavily restricted! :D

Yes, some links would be nice...I'm fairly certain the 1 to 4 MBs was for a database of thousands of creatures, not just a single one.

Bells 05-20-2006 05:46 PM

I saw it on IGN it was a writen interview with him during E3, im searching for the link now... also, the main Spore Website has some Screenshots and FAQS that may help you guys on this...

Frankly i got a litle "shoot down" with the filezise increase and the amount of content that will be PC generated

MasterOfMagic 05-20-2006 06:25 PM

Oh, haha, I get the confusion now. The creature file sizes are and always were going to be about 5 MB. But they compress to be much smaller than that. i.e. 2 to 3 kb.

And I don't see what's wrong with Player generated content...

The game has been described as a "MSOG" - Massively Single-player Online Game. There is a central database which collects creatures/buildings/objects that are custom created by players, stores them, and then distributes them to other players. The creatures are compressed in size to about 3k from as big as 5Mb; using methods inspired by the "Demo Scene" to compress complex graphical information into very small sizes. How this actually affects your game is that while creations are coming in from other players and your world is being populated with them, you are still playing alone - as soon as the creatures are downloaded and populated, the computer takes over control based upon the "personality sliders" of how that creature evolved and how the player who created it played.

Well... hot diggdy damn dang! Thats better

Aw! and i had no luck on finding that interview... it was something about a Breakfest with will wright righ after his E3 Presentantion (or before) with the IGN team

Hmm... this one didn't start out with a Spore-gasm not nearly as interesting :P. So does that mention anything more about the graphical requirements

No, I don't think there's been word on that yet.

I can't see you having much fun with the game without a 256mb card, but maybe I'm just a graphics junkie.

Aerozord 05-21-2006 04:26 PM

to be honest I have wanted this game since I first heard about it. Its one of those few games you just drool over and will get it the instant you can. I actually started to think I might stay ignorant of the game untill its release. I mean if I keep up to date I will keep thinking, "greeeat...another day without spore."
