For exactly the reason I said. Because it's one of the most enchanting videogames you'll ever play, and then the king murders fucking Hyrule!

I mean I'm not goddamn exaggerating here, that is exactly what happens!

Oh. That's, uh...that's pretty bad. Wow. See, now I'm glad I didn't play it.

Shit, man. I like Chrono Cross alot, but that was one of Square's weaker moments.

I actually popped back into this thread to revise my judgment of KHII, having finished the game. Come to look at the whole thing, in a weird way it's almost the exact opposite of what this thread was supposed to be talking about, in that it's really 40 hours of mediocrity punctuated by crap-awfulness, which is utterly redeemed by about an hour and a half at the end's worth of arguably one of the greatest videogaming experiences ever created. In fact I will go so far as to say that in KHII: Fifthfiend Edition, just about everything after Riku de-cloaks makes it in completely unscathed.
See? Like I said.

"Hey, Disney? Sit down for a minute. Daddy's working."

I've actually really enjoyed (most of) KH2 so far. And oddly enough, I've enjoyed the Disney worlds more than I've enjoyed most of the SquareEnix-centric material (I actually thought a few of Square's plot twists this time around were a little cheesy -- Kairi getting a keyblade? Riku looking like Ansem? Ansem not really being Ansem at all? The OXIII members and the Nobodies kicking ass but then barely being a factor in the game?)

Still, KH2 has been pretty darn good to me. I even really liked this game's version of Atlantica (the musical really didn't annoy me at all, but maybe that's just because I've always had a pseudo-childish crush on Ariel) and Hundred Acre Wood (great minigames this time around). I consider it one of the few recent offerings by Square-Enix I've actually enjoyed -- that and DQ8.

I also enjoyed (and still enjoy) most of the Final Fantasies mentioned on this list. Though I do agree that the entire fourth disc of FFVIII and the entire final boss sequence for FFIX wasn't worth the wait.

Similarly, Xenogears Disc 2 was a disgrace in comparison to Disc 1. If Disc 2 shared anything remotely in common with its amazing predecesor, Xenogears probably would have been my favorite game of all time.

Raiden didn't disappoint me at all in MGS2, but MGS2's ending sequence was...underwhelming to say the least. Ironically an evaluation of MGS3 would seem like the exact reverse of MGS2 in my book: MGS3 started as poorly as MGS2 finished, but it ended as wonderfully as MGS2 began.

(...even I confused myself with that last sentence.)

Anyway...other disappointments in great games...hmm...Final Fantasy VI was an awesome game overall, but I felt like the World of Ruin had much greater potential and it didn't quite live up to the epic feel of the first half of the game. Chrono Trigger just lacked more of Magus kicking ass. I adored Shadow of the Colossus (not as emotionally riveting as ICO, though), but the final Colossus was underwhelming (I was hoping for something that...moved.)

And I've considered every Legend of Zelda game after LttP to be disappointing because none of them have been on LttP's level. (Yes, I know, I've just said something that will send the OoT fanboys into flaming mode.)

Nope! Butchered couple of hallways that lead to the final boss fight with Pansy Ass Incarnation of Chaos. Weak.

The whole " I'm Dracula" thing also ticked me off, for different reasons. Come on - you find that out, and you don't even get any new powers for absorbing the single most powerful soul in the game? Whoopee - you beat the pseudo-final boss, and all you get for it is a change of your pic on the status screen and some slightly creepy dialogue between you and all the other characters. Oh, and the Black Panther soul in the next room, but really - what's that good for besides soul-hunting Main Corridor enemies, or plowing through the pitifully short Chaotic Realm even FASTER than you would otherwise?

They could have at least given you something really useful. I also agree with you that Chaos blows - whoopee, he steals your collected souls at the beginning of the fight, but most of your freakin' attack power comes from your equipment and Ability Souls (which he doesn't steal for whatever reason) anyway, so it's not like he's hurting you much unless you're using the Headhunter, Giant Ghost, and Red Minotaur Souls together. Claimh Solais, Dracula's Tunic, and Ring of Satan FTW!

Then the second part of the battle is about as predictable as predictable gets. Heck, half the time, on normal mode, unless you're INCREDIBLY underlevelled, you can just IGNORE his attacks entirely and just keep whacking the eyes and central sphere, and still kill him with plenty of life to spare - I know I did. Heck, you don't even have to bother using the Soul abilities you just reclaimed.
