empire earth

just wondering, how many other people here like this game. i hate the single player mode due to it's astronomically cheating AI. but i love the multiplayer mode. i'm even unbeatable in one of the epochs(the first one)

Deathosaurus Wrecks 01-17-2004 12:24 AM

which empire earth? the old one that went into the future, or the recent one that just models recent centuries?

i played the old one, and it was alright, but it just didnt do much for me. Rise of Nations was a much cooler and in depth game.

Tark 01-17-2004 12:42 AM

wtf? theres only one empire earth - and an expansion.

and it goes from prehistoric to flying in space....its all up to the game settings (in multiplay) and the campaigns ususally only cover one or two epochs.

Empire earth is best if you arent playing thru all 15 epochs in one game.

Rise of nations is great to play multiplayer going through all the ages.

im best with the navy, up until subs are invented :) heh, you gotta use sea kings against em, and im not too good with aircraft :)

Anarchy_Balsac 01-17-2004 12:55 AM

space is only in the expansion(which sucks) and needless to say i only have the regular EE. whether you play through all or not s up to the player, but since i'm a DMer i usually only do 1 epoch. when i do more than 1 it's in a RM and it's always all of them

Tark 01-17-2004 01:39 AM

yeah, space is kinda lame, they coulda made it sooo much better.

once you get to the ww1 age, the rest are basically just upgraded versions of it.

except for cybers, but i dont like them too much, theyre just walking tanks anyway.

some kewl kinds of games are going from ww1-modern, modern-nano, medieval-industrial, prehistoric-copper.

the only real use ive found for doing all 15 is to test maps against the AI. mostly because the AI doesnt know how to build up a big enough attack force, so any decent RTS player can beat it easily, all you need is towers, and a siege killin squad of infantry, and later, tanks.

rise of nations is a much better game for progressing through all of history, mostly because it is basically civ3 in real time.

EE is essentially age of empires on steroids. (which makes sense, most of the dev team worked on AoE.)

the number one problem, is the inability to rotate the view, and the sprite based units/buildings. they could have used warcraft 3 style units.

but warcraft3 only allows you to have 90 food.....possibly related to the fact that, while i have a gig of ram, and 128mb on my video card, not everyone else does. and if it had to render six hundred units in full 3d, the game would be eating GeForce 4 MX's for breakfast.

(or they would do it like prince of persia: sands of time, which just bitches and crashes if your video card cost you less than $250)

Anarchy_Balsac 01-17-2004 03:33 AM

no no i meant the EXPANSION sucks, not the space epoch. i only play online and i find pre-nano to be fun when i do decide to play RM.

while i don't use combat cybers, i DO use ultra cybers:

poseidon - like preists it's good for fucking around with rooks

hades - try time warping your opponent's miners with him. they come back idle and not mining. the teleport makes it easy to get close enough. and then you can use nano-virus should our opponent use combat cybers

furies - it's self destruct on death makes it an excellent digital-nano scout

tempest - anti-matter storm and resonator make it a must. and resonator is much more powerfu than you think. i'm not sure how(exactly) it work but my geuss is it takes the combined attack power of all units(even infantry) within a certain radius and reduces all of their hit points by that number

i don't use apollo though

Tark 01-17-2004 12:54 PM

yeah i dont much like cybers - mosly because if im playing Atomic->Space i usually have a badass army of tanks and infantry by the time i get to nano.

Ultra cybers are almost as annoying as prophets in the copper-bronze age, when they are used on you. I just suck at using them.

really tho, i dont play too many RTS games online, except bliz games in Use Map Settings mode.

but, in single player, Novaya Russia = cyber factory. (hell, their leader is a fuggin cyber...)
---
in Rise Of Nations, i just love nuking the crap outta shit when you know you cant win. just raise up the armageddon timer, and eventually nobody wins. (but
you didnt lose either!)

i cant play rise of nations online tho - my copy is alternately acquired....but so is everybody else's in my residence...the RIAA and whoever cares about software would be sick if they saw how much downloaded shit we pass around here....Go Canada!
---
if microsoft has a bitch, tell em to stop charging 70 fugging bucks for games. if they charged 39.99 like the rest of the industry, canadians might buy their products instead of downloading them.
---
dammit my post turned into a bitch and rant again :(

Anarchy_Balsac 01-17-2004 04:35 PM

oh man, you've got to learn to use ultra cybers. like prophets they won't win you the game, but they'll send it over in your favor. like highlight 5 tempests and keep clicking resonator. and trust me EE kicks ass online. i played for 2 hours with this rook last night on nano tournament islands(DM of course). man i just fucked with that guy the whole time, it was fun

Tark 01-18-2004 03:02 PM

its not EE, its just i dont like playing RTS's with people unless i know they suck as much as i do...getting own3d gets boring after a while

and what does "rook" mean?

Death Dealer 01-18-2004 04:45 PM

I assume it means rookie.

Empire Earth is fun, but I've not picked it up and played it in awhile...been doing more Warcrafting.
