Favourite normal Enemy
This isn't about bosses or major villains which already have topics about them,
what is your favourite regular enemy(eg koopas, bombs, zombies) in games or what games do you reckon had the best enemies? I really liked the ganados from RE4 myself. And Pikmin 2 had a really good setup enemy wise. |
Earthbound.
'Nuff said. If you don't know what I'm talking about, please consider the phrase "New Age Retro Hippie" slowly and carefully. |
Id say the Malboros from FF8. They were hell to kill, you start the battle and they whack you with every status effect in the book. I loved trying to find new strategys for killing them.
|
The Grow Apples and Melchoms from Wild Arms 4 are fun - they give you experience and gella, respectively, based on how much damage you can deal them in one shot. Example: Deal 600 damage to a Grow Apple, gain 599 EXP. They're quite rare though.
|
Likely the Darknuts from Wind Waker. Just a lot of fun to fight. You really felt like you were in a mano-a-mano swordfight.
|
The Heartless from the 1000 Heartless battle (can't remember name). Pulling off the Sky attack with several enemies and watching them scurry off is awesome.
|
Tough choice. Hmmm...
I really liked the Reborn in Jedi Knight: Jedi Outcast, because they gae some dificulty to the game. Otherwise, once you got some force powers... WAYYYY too easy. |
The slimes from Breath of Fire, just because they represented every level of difficulty throughout the game.
Goombas, because they were the first bad guys that I have ever defeated. |
Disgruntled Old Man started complaining about today's youth!
Ness's Guts goes down by 5! |
The breakdancing guy from paperboy.
And the most hated, the fucker that threw the spiked koopas at you in mario. GODIHATETHATGUY. |
Fenriswolf is my favourite normal enemy. ((You didn't specifically say video game enemies. :P))
But really, I loved the skeleton's in Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of time. And Meatsims in Perfect Dark. MEATSIMS. God, they name ALONE made them fun to KILL. |

As for my favorite normal enemy...I'd have to say it's Goombas. They're just so damned simple. Little roundish shape that's out to kill you. Step on it and it's dead. Nothing more, nothing less. |

I'm torn between Golden Sun's variety (from innocent workers to werewolves) to MegaMan Battle Network's Mettuar (They gots hats and pickaxes!)
|
Well, my favorites from various series(es):
- Persephone, Castlevania. Asskicking demon maid. 'Nuff said, right? - Bullet Bill, Super Mario. They're annoying at first, but then you realize that up until they start coming from every damn direction, they're only a nuisance for a second or two, and can even be used as temporary platforms. - Garo, Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. - Intangir, FF6. That's about it. Out of them, I'd have to say Persephone, but they're all fairly close. |
Going along with Mirai Gen's post Earthbound has a bunch of favorite enemies :)
|
Gonna have to say the water. The water in every side scrolling game screwed me over. But damn fun to jump around in if you have the option of doing so like in Megaman X.
As for enemies...I quite enjoy anything and everything that gives lots of gold or lives;) |
Nearly every enemy in Earthbound is just about zany enough to fit on the top of my list. Because the list is like a hundred things long. And I listed the one that wasn't Earthbound.
Oh, an addition. I really liked the mutants from Crono Trigger, just because they were so damn... weird. |

Yeah, I ended up limiting myself to make it hard agian. As in, no force powers when facing them. Fun fun. By far my favourite enemies were the stalfos from Ocanaria of Time. You know, the big skeletons with the shield and sword? Yeah. Tons of fun fighting those things. Or multiples....mmmm.... |
oh, and while they're not my favorites, I do like the Trogs from World of Warcraft. Mostly because my guild always refered to them as "Nixons", due to the fact that they looked like even-more deformed versions of our 37th President.
Nothing like yelling in the middle of combat, "Ford can't save you now!!" |
The Heartless in general fill me with warm sticky goo of happiness. But the Neo Shadows are the best of the crop. Everything about them makes me happy. Their strong angular bodies, their tougher looking exterior, their sleek and oiled movements and manerisms...I love em. :3
|
As for me, Bob-Omb is my absolute favorite normal enemy. Just so damn cute and explosive! Second would be ShyGuy, third would be a Metroid. :thief:
|
The little flying mage heartless (Symphonies? Requiems? Operas or Orchestras or something like that?) from the original Kingdom Hearts. They're just so darn cute! Their shape reminds me of little possessed Hershey Kisses. With teeny little bird feet.
|
Not to say another heartless, but I really like the original heartless. They're so cute! It's hard to kill them (only not)
Other than that... I'm not sure. ^^ heh I can't think of any. |
The enemy paddle in Pong. But I'm just saying that to be evil.
Really its the top right baddie in Space Invaders. Drop another level and accelerate! |
New Age Retro Hippie.
Watch out for their blindingly shiny teeth! |
You know those levels inb SMB where it entirely consists of boardwalk over water? And them damned fish are jumping up again and agian? Yeah I likes them, cause it makes you just run and bounce over all them fishies. And that the entire outcome of the level can end with a jump at the wrong time. Heheheh.
|
Atma Weapon from Final Fantasy VI.
From the very first second I was blown away by the level of detail and design. Then it turned out to be an immortal zen-talking super-monster from Beyond. I even liked the attacks it used to wipe out my party. Very cool. Then you find it locked in a toilet in Kefka's Tower in the World of Ruin. And nobody ever explains what the hell it is, or what it's doing, or why it didn't die in the first fight, or how it survived when the Floating Continent fell. It set my imagination on fire. |

The flunkies from any Metal Gear game, definitely.
"!" |
Any guard in any metal gear solid game that really has to go to the bathroom, but can't make it to said bathroom.
The turtles in mario, what can I say they were awesome. The slimes in Dragon Quest 8, in fact most of the enemies in Dragon Quest 8, just because of their names (Dingalings). Same goes for Earthbound. |
METTAURS! (aka Metools, Mettals, or just Metts)
They're just so CUTE. They're also annoying when they go hiding beneath their helmets - they're the classic "invincible unless attacking" enemy. |
I find it utterly unbelieveable that no one has chosen Eggplant Wizards.
|
Wasn't that enemy made into a flunkie on that Captain Nintendo cartoon? Someone had to like it.
As for me, the Slimes in most RPG's. They are the visible forms of generic monsters that terrorize generic small villages until the generic hero shows up. You couldn't have a proper RPG without them. |
What about Space Pirates from Metroid.
|
Darknuts from WW.
Dragon, Gald Dragon from ToS Wizzrobe from MM (I don't know if mini-bosses count, but they occured more than once.) Valuan Spellshis from SoA |

It still freaks me out whenever I get spotted by one of 'em and I don't know it. The sound that plays, it's heart-stopping... |
Dodongos. If you're really patient, throw a bomb in their face instead of attacking them from behind: I was quite surprised to see it swallow the bomb, then exploding to bits( I always used to attack from behind with my sword).
Also, the Dark Knuckles in the Spirit Temple and Ganon's tower; there are only five of them in the whole game, but man the're fun! Banjo-Kazooie: the mister Slushie(the snowball-throwing snowmen.)So fun to hammer them in the face while flying! The dark nuts from WW: so fluid. |
Hell, give me the goddamned Heartless ANY day!
|
Tonberries ROCK!
Plus you gotta love those adorable mets ^_^ |
The little Mushroom goombas from the origonal SMB. So pathetic, yet so scary looking.
|
Metts from the Meagman series, Slimes from the Dragon Quest series, and Cactuars from the Final Fantasy series.
Not in that order. |
