The NPF Member Comic Webpage

Hey all. Right now, I'm undertaking a rather ambitious project. I'm in the process of setting up a webpage for all of the NPF comics, which will be divided up by author/storyline. And, well, right now, I need a little help.

I already found a very nice script that I can use to manage the comics, one that is able to manage multiple series, so I can keep all the different ones seperate. But I'll need a little help in other areas:

1) A webpage design/layout will need to be made. I am not the best at making my own design from scratch, seeing as how the only one's I've made have been ultra-minimalistic. If anyone wants to help here, that'd be great. If multiple people come up with design mock-ups, we (the forum community) should vote for the best.

2) I'll need some help with the coding. I can handle all the server-specific paths, but my knowledge of webpage programming does not exceed far beyond basic html. I could do it myself if noone else can, but, it'd take forever. The script driving the webpage, Comikaze, is php based, but i can hook you up with the neccesary variable lists, and some example files. This'll have to wait until after a layout is decided upon.

Also, if you do not want your comics to show up on this page, please, tell me so. Right now, I'm running on the assumption of "If they're on the forum, they're good to go on the page."

One final note, this is going to end up on CheshireThief's webspace, so I hope none of you have a problem with the domain Spatchcock.net, as that's the one that's on the webspace (feel free to blame CT for all of that).

Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

I've got Dreamweaver as well as Frontpage and there are some nice webpage templates to be had there. I'll take a look later on that. Plus I already have access to the webspace so that's a plus.

I already offered to do this...

Sorry for the nit-picking, but is this really an "off topic" topic?

Anyway, I'd like to help, but my html/javascript/design skills don't extend far from the basics either. What I really do well is debugging. Granted, I can't debug stuff I don't know about, but as far as silly little mistakes go, I've made enough to know generally how to find them. So if during the course of things someone has something that just doesn't work, feel free to shoot a copy over my way and I'll tinker around with it. Just be sure to comment the major parts so I know what's what (given that this seems like it's going to be a shared project, we probably should be doing that anyway).

Anything I do will be in notepad or wordpad, since I don't have any software like Dreamweaver and I think I work better without it anyway.

If all else fails, I'm excellent at giving moral support and being consistent (not always a good thing, but I enjoy my quirks).

I put this in off-topic because this was where the member-comics are, and most likely to be noticed by the proper people here.

DarkCorn, sorry, but 50 Megs really isn't going to cut it for something like this (I assume that's where you'd put it), as I believe the total bulk of all the comics exceeds 50 Megs. I have access to a couple of professional paid webspaces that are better suited for this kind of project.

TheBear: I'll keep that in mind. Thanks.

I'd been planning to do something like this for months, but I never got to more than the "vague idea" stage. Thanks for undertaking what my lazy ass apparently can't. =P I'll be glad to help with anything to the best of my abilities.

I too have been playing around with this idea for a few months, but it all came together when I heard the new system with the comic threads here.

And, I think I can actually set it up so that everyone can actually access thier own comic's archive on the webpage, so they could upload new comics themselves, add in commentary on the news for that specific comic, all that fun stuff. I'm playing around the script a bit right now, it looks promising.

Oh could I trouble someone to photoshop up a banner. I'm afraid I'm not creatively artistic enough to make a suitable banner.

That sounds awesome, Fencer!

I could give a shot at one if you like.

one of my friends has a couple of pictures that I am sure that he will be thrilled to have them used.
I will ask him permission then post samples.
