the library.

so, i am planning to go to the library sometime this week. I was thinking of picking up one of Dan Browns more unfamous novels, Digital Fortress and/or Deception Point. What other mystery type novels do you recommend?

mystery? Howabout Sherlock holmes. He's always good for a good mystery ain't he? Then again he might also be cliche and I haven't exactly read into mystery books since they don't intrigue me much.

I've read every Sherlock Holmes story ever made. I've even read The Seven-Per-Cent Solution, which is a Holmes story not written by Doyle. I'm also read every Hercule Poirot mystery, plus every Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew.

Hmm...while I'm not ordinarily much of a mystery novel person, I recently picked up a book by an author named Stephen Booth (the book: 'One Last Breath'). It was a good read, and while it's the only book of his I've read, I'd probably recommend anything you can find with his name on it.

If you haven't already, read The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle. Or anything by Haruki Murakami.

Agatha Christie has some great mysteries. "Ten Little Indians" was a wonderful mystery/suspense story, and I hear "Murder on the Orient Express" is a good one too.

You wouldn't expect a little old lady to write murder stories like hers. People get hacked up with axes, strangled, poisoned with injections of cynide... MAN! I would hate to be that lady's grandchild!! XD

If you don't mind something that's not a little surreal, the Thursday Next series--The Eyre Affair, Lost in a Good Book, The Well of Lost Plots, and Something Rotten--by Jasper Fforde can usually be found in the mystery section (at least in my library). It's a well-written mystery set in an extremely engrossing parallel universe. Same goes for The Big Over Easy, also by Fforde but featuring different characters.

Douglas Adams wrote a mystery book but it borders more on Sci-fi/Fantasy it goes by the name Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency it won't keep you on the edge of your seat but you should probably keep a few extra guts handy in case one busts.

The Dresden Files, a series of novels by Jim Butcher. If Harry Potter grew up and became a badass private investigator/wizard fighting vampires (lots of vampires), werewolves, and spirits, he'd be Harry Dresden.

Read yourself up some Chuck Palahniuk. They're not really standard mysteries, but there's a sort of mystery to be figured out in each one.
