SA vs THE INTERNET
 

I'm not sure how many of you are familiar with www.somethingawful.com but one of their writers posted a rant I happen to think is one of the most thought provoking things I have ever read.

Clearly the line has been drawn, but whose side are you on? I happen to side with SA on this one.

I'm just going to ask one question...I did some looking around on this site and I just can't figure out its purpose...can anyone tell me?

EDIT: Ok, I lied. One more question...is this serious or just a heavy does of sarcasm? Either way, I'm afraid.

the internet, SA is a copycat site. those people can't even think up their own jokes. i mean look at the nes rom reviews. then check out the NES section of www.seanbaby.com. plus lowtax's RPG thing is just a few stolen rules from the RPG cliche list + a ouple commonly said things about ff7.

I'm all in support of SA. You guys really shouldn't take anything from SA seriously, it's supposed to be funny and provoking. By the way you should get Final Fantasy spoof they made, its great. I'd join there forums but I'm too cheap to pay 10 bucks.

Nah, everyone who played those old games say the exact same thing. How many times have I heard about Mario getting high off of those power-ups. That's the problem with "He's saying what we're all thinking" humor, it can't really be YOUR bit, because everyone already thought of it.

This isn't a thread about ROMs, or the worth of SA's posts. I believe Birds discussion is regards to the "The Internet is a Sad Sexy Place" article. Please stick to it.

Ok, on to the disccusion that Bird started. My main problem with SA's view is summed up by this one thought.

His entire view point takes the fault of "Sexually Deranged" folks into the hands of the Internet, instead of the people themselves. I think everyone is responsible for their own actions and choices. These people became "deranged" of their own free will.

There is no question though, if your going to get deranged anywhere sexually. Its on the internet. 1/3 of all internet sites are porn, and 1/2 of the traffic is geared towards those sites.

Regardless porn on the internet is not the cause of deranged sexuality. It's only a by product. The fault lies with those who choose to follow those kind of fantasies. I don't believe that there is a chemical embalance, or little devil on your shoulder that can defeat your will. Not if your truly striving to be a good person.

Pedophelia is one thing (one wrong and disgusting thing) but who is anyone to judge adults capable of making their own decisions (this in regards to the article's comments on furries)? How does having an interest in a sexual subculture make one a bad person for that matter?

People with sexual interests might feel alone and lost, but now that they can explore sex and sexuality through the internet, they may have options other than acting out irrationally because of built-up frustration. But those uninterested can't handle it because its uncomfotable for them just knowing its there. I won't condemn something just because I don't understand it.

I disagree. Without the internet they wouldn't be what they are today. This massive communications tool allows them to snowball out of control. They really arn't responsible for their actions because they latched onto a internet sub-culture. Then, they can hide as their view of the world becomes more and more distorted.
