BRISTOW (AP) - The longtime court reporter of a former Creek County judge testified Monday she saw him expose himself by urinating, shaving and repeatedly using a sexual device behind the bench while presiding over jury trials.

Lisa Foster, the state's star witness in the indecent exposure case against retired judge Donald Thompson, dabbed at tears and her voice cracked as she described seeing or hearing her boss of 15 years using a penis pump during trials between 2001 and 2003.

�I was really shocked and I was kind of scared because it was so bizarre,� Foster said, recounting when she first traced a strange �sh-sh� sound to the bench, where she saw the exposed judge using the pump.

Thompson, 59, who served for 23 years in Creek County before retiring in 2004, faces four felony counts of indecent exposure.

Foster testified that she had decided never to tell authorities what she had seen because she feared losing her job. She gave police a statement only after being subpoenaed, she said.

At first, Foster said she saw the judge using the pump only when someone in the courtroom was talking. But she said he later used it brazenly, even during rape and murder trials.

In a trial in 2002, she recalled hearing the sound of the pump during the emotional testimony of a murdered toddler's grandfather.

�He (the grandfather) was getting real teary-eyed, and the judge was up there pumping on that pump,� she said. �It was sickening.�

She also testified she twice saw the judge urinate into a trash can behind the bench and once saw him shave his private parts with a plastic razor while a lawyer was giving closing arguments. Foster estimated she saw the judge's penis at least 15 times between 2001 and 2003.

She said she took photos of a pump under the judge's bench when he was not in the courtroom intending to show them to her husband, and because �I didn't want people to think I was crazy or lying about it.�

She also started noting in her court steno notes when she heard or saw the pump because she wanted to see if it could be heard on her backup courtroom recording. Jurors listened to some of those recordings Monday while wearing headsets.

A whistling whooshing noise could sometimes be heard in the background, and Foster identified it as the sound made by the pump.

Foster testified that Thompson fired her the day after she gave testimony in September 2003 to a judicial complaint review board. She later sued over her termination in federal court and is seeking in excess of $75,000 - something Thompson's lawyer, Clark Brewster, brought up on cross-examination.

A state forensic expert previously testified that stains found on a robe, small chair and under the desk of the former judge's chamber provided a genetic match to Thompson. Two court employees also testified they saw Thompson expose himself while he was presiding over court cases, once at a murder trial and another time during a civil case.

Wow. What the heck. If I were Lisa Foster, I would have told someone ages ago, not wait 2-3 years. Screw losing my job, that's just to messed up to go on that long.

On a more serious, atoning-for-my-spamminess note: Just to play devil's advocate a moment, this sort of thing can be very difficult to prove; and it can be very hard to get people to believe you. After all, it's hardly the sort of thing you can just bring up around the water cooler--"hey guys, you ever see Judge Such-n-so whip it out during capital cases? 'Cos I'd like to figure out how to get him to stop that."

edit: A thought just occurred to me--this is also likely to cause a metric ass-ton of appeals and retrials, wouldn't you think?

Well, of course. Being a judge, there's always the chance that this crazy perv could get a sympathetic judge. Its standard practice to hold judges to a higher standard of morality than common folks, but individual people tend to be sympathetic when they're passing a sentence on peers. Who wants to be the judge that screwed another judge, if they're both breaking the law?

Seriously, my mother is a nurse and sometimes when she is pulled over for a minor traffic violation the cop wll just not write a ticket if she's wearing scrubs or her ID badge. It's an unwritten rule that cops give preferetial treatment to hospital staff because if they get shot or something, they don't want their life to be in the hands of someone they pissed off. I've heard her talk about other nurses who go ballistic on cops that actually do write tickets, trying to abuse their nominal power to circumvent the law. Power corrupts and the system is only as good as the people running it.

Which ain't so good, at least not all the time everywhere. Case in point: Judge Perv.

Plus, if this judge gets convicted it will open the gateway to overturning all the decisions he made during the period of time in question. Sentences on murder trials, and other times when justice was thought to be done would be compromised. Who can trust a guy that plays with himself while witnesses cry during testimony? It's practically a sure thing that appeals will go on for decades, unless the judge himself doesn't want to do that.

I never even considered hearing about something like this. It almost makes the kid pissing on the plums in our local Wal-Mart yesterday seem normal. Of course, around this area, sadly, it is. Thank God I don't eat plums....

Using a penis pump at age... 59, was it? Wow. I wonder if he has just a naturally long-lived labido, or if he had to down some, err, supplements to continue it's use? It's a morbid thought, to be sure, but I'm in a strange mood today. It makes one wonder how much of our congress and elected representatives do the very same thing, or something close to it... all the while getting by because they learned to make sure all blue dresses were properly laundered. Hmm.....

actually, penis pumps are used as alternatives to viagra, rather than stimulants or enlargers. they are meant to GIVE erections, not stimulate them.

My friends and I bought one as a joke, and read all kinds of warnings on it about hemorrhaging and such...unpleasant.

edit: I wouldn't be surprised if this kind of thing happens all the time in all kinds of places.

I thought that pumps were supposed to increase erections. I wonder how many "objections" were withheld and how many were sustained.
