Money can't buy happiness and other crap.

I don't know about you, but i here these sayings all the time and can't help but think of what utter bullshit they are. Money can't buy happiness? Yeah right. If you have enough money to afford to buy any video game you want at any time, chances are its going to make you happy. If you can buy a Ferrari and not have to sell your soul to get it chances are, you're happy. What about this one, money can't buy love. Pfft. If you have a billion dollars, you CAN get a woman to love you. Who wouldn't be attracted to a billion dollars?

What sayings do you know and hate at the same time?

Fifthfiend 07-09-2006 12:06 PM

Hey, it ain't just women, neither.

I mean I'm just saying, JK Rowling can call me any goddamn time she likes.

Alice Walton, though, she can fuck right off.

well if you define happiness by indulgence in material goods, I don't think the saying applies to you.

If, however, you find joy from further increasing your knowledge, having greater understanding of the world as a whole and perhaps even finding a fulfilling relationship in which you truly connect with someone.

But nevermind that, there's material goods to consume, and that kinda happiness is permanent, eh?

Ok, I see. That's love is it? See, I thought love was when two people connect, not when one person desires to take a large proportion of another person's money via lying/sexual favours.

Seriously, would you want to be with a woman that was just attracted to your money?

I believe that they call them ladies....what was it? ....Oh yea....Prostitutes.

So money might not buy happiness, but it can buy hookers.
and video games.

and cars...

Do these things make you happy?

Money doesn't buy happieness, it makes you life easier....
Sometimes.

As the BIG once said....mo money, mo problems.

You need money to do all that. Except the girl, MAYBE. Money may not be everything, but is essential to anything.

Look alls I'm saying is it's a hell of a lot easier to connect with someone with a billion goddamn dollars there to help boost the signal.

Yes.

To me it has been obvious for quite some time now that money can indeed buy happiness. Sure, you can be happy without money, but money is a good way to happiness! Infact, I take what I just said back. Money is the ONLY way to happiness.

GIMME MONEY! MONEY MONEY MONEYYYYYYYYYY!!!

Happiness requires money, in most cases. If you are happy reading, you have to buy a book. If you want a girl, you're going to have to spend a good deal of money, most likely. Maybe not all at once, but eh. Whatever floats your boat, in some way, it will probably cost you something.

Mmm.. I guess what I really meant then, is that you shouldn't decide that your happiness should be proportional to your money. Like 'I can buy MORE things with MORE money and be MORE happy." Or something.

Bleh, society makes it impossible to do things without money, but I don't think that means having the ability to buy more means you get to be happier, since there are far deeper joys that fulfill a person more. But no, if you take it directly literally, money is what's buying the happiness. I suppose I always took the saying to mean something more along the lines of
"More money =/= more happiness" as a means of discouraging mindlessly shallow desires.

Honestly, it really depends on your prespective if money buys happiness or not. And I'm sure there are some peeps out there that have all the money they can ever need, but still couldn't find what they want, thus making them unable to get happiness. =/

On the other side, money DOES make a lot of things easier. Gets rid of a lot of the stresses easily.
