Ode to Black Belt

October 16, 2004. A sad day for 8BT fans, the death of Black Belt.

I'm not going to complain about his death or think about half-assed methods of revival. Instead, I'm going to Honor him by writing a poem.

It's a work in progress. Here's what I got so far...

Black Belt had a heart of gold,
but his brain was made of mold.
Although he couldn't tell left from right,
he was willing to help the warriors of light.
When he tried to fight an evil tart,
he ended up being cut apart.

Any suggestions?

Sleep, O war-weary Warrior,
Rest thy wounded head;
For, just like several cities' guards
You're utterly, utterly dead.

The dude has been dead for a year and a half. Get over him.

(what? It's totally what BM would say!)

Ok, fine.

There once was a Black Belt from Nantucket
...

Oh, wait, I wanna keep it at least R... hmm..

Meh. I like the first one.

Red Dwarf Gold right there.

Sorry, I simply had to notice that. Any contribution I could make to a poem would be hideous.

On the plus side, I'm liking the current work. It needs to be turned into an epic - involing lots of getting lost in straight halls =P

Ashes to Ashes,
Dust to dust,
BB's head a-sploded,
In one huge gush.

Thank you, I'll be here all night.

Be gone the days of glory,
A mere fragment of a story,
When a warrior named
Black Belt, his life came
To a very abrupt end so gory.

He claimed his fists were of iron.
A headband of blue he'd don.
His spirit was saintly,
But his skull was empty,
And it seemed he wasn't that strong.

Of course I had to channel Rimmer there :D . What rumination on a major character's death would be complete without a contribution from someone who's kneed the Grim Reaper in the happy sacks (in what has to be one of the most frustrating cliffhangers ever, for a variety of reasons)?

Oh here--a haiku:

Is that cigarette
Smoke that floats around Black Belt?
No, he smolders still.

Or howzabout this?

If you put a Black Belt in a round room
And tell him there's a shiny new dime
For the Monk who can find it, hidden in the corner--
O, what a grand old time!

I don't really care about the whole Black Belt is Dead debate, but here's a haiku anyway:

Black Belt is still dead.
The fanbase wanted him back.
Brian was not happy.

No, it's a chicken.

Slightly more on topic, I've decided to go for a hideous contribution after all -

Roses are red
Violets are blue
Some poems rhyme;
Black belt's dead.
