Final Fantasy III DS - Gameplay Footage

There ya go! Coming soon for your DS!

Really didnt quite liked the music... graphics are around FF8 level... not too shabby! But still looks like more fanservice...

You're talking about the FF8 fmv's right? Because the gameplay graphics were at least 10 times better than FF8 gameplay graphics. And what's with the only 1 party member at the beggining?

Wasn't FF3 FF1 in America?

Meister 07-16-2006 02:11 AM

FF1 was FF1 in America. FF4 was FF2, FF6 was FF3, all others before FF7 never officially got there.

EDIT: Originally and apart from Dawn of Souls or Origins versions, of course.

The music's the original FF3 music, only technically improved. It's looking good, but I hope the fadeouts and fadeins were part of the video and won't feature that heavily in the actual game. I also hope they do something about that godforsaken final dungeon.

Yeah FF3j never got released over here before, FF2j got over here in Dawn of Souls and FF5 got over here in Anthology. So yeah, first time it's ever legally seen western shores.

Those are some beautiful graphics for a handheld. Then again, I haven't exactly seen many DS games in action. There's one thing I don't get, however: why didn't the hot spring restore his hp? Wasn't it supposed to?

The video is obviously edited. There must be one or two fights missing between the spring and the final fight.

This looks like FF9 should have in the oveworld. But for heaven's sake, why would anyone ever look at an RPG for its graphics? I want to know what the actual game is like, thanks.

Magus 07-16-2006 11:56 PM

Yeah, I hope there's an actual reason to switch classes in this remake (like learning abilities ala FFV), and of course the little technical changes. The graphics are nice and all, but if it plays the same/as badly as the original there's not much point in umm, ahem, legally playing it...but I'm sure they've made all the technical improvements needed.

From what I've seen, this is the way games are going recently. All I have to say is FFX-2 to prove my point. Its sad really. Whoever came up with the idea that graphics are most important in games, particularly RPGs, needs more holes in their lungs... and that's why the gaming gods invented automatic weapons.

Still, I hope FF3 comes through as a decent game with or without shiny graphics. Not only will it give me an excuse to get a DS but it will let me complete the whole FF list in English... because Japanese characters make my brain bleed.
