Valve's Portal hell yea!

This game has to be one of the most innovative games I have seen so far.

Where Human Head's Prey took you for a wacky ride through these portals, Valve's title equips you with a sterile looking gun and urges you to make your own entry and exit points with wild abandon.

The trailer (embedded in the second part of the post) aptly demonstrates the powers of the portal gun, the dangers of getting caught in an infinite loop and, of course, how using rampant teleportation can enable you to solve puzzles involving crates of some kind. As they say, hilarity ensues.

That preview looks incredible. Tycho says that this is supposed to fit in with the Half-Life continuity somehow. I'm really excited.

I'm hoping it's the "New Gravity Gun functionality."

That's the most innovative thing I've seen that isn't on the Wii..... you know the Wii could run it and it's good for FPS' so it's possible I suppose.

But still friggin sweet, it's good to see them using all that extra grunt for something other than making things prettier, because from what I know and correct me if I'm wrong, this would have been difficult to do with older technology. I reckon (or at least hope) this will become common FPS fare eventually in the same way physics and lifting did last gen after HL2.

Edit: Heh oops missed Dagoth's post and repeated his last point, still, needs to be emphasised.

I did see the game and it looks quite fun. I can imagine online death matches are gonna be a killer. I hope they can be innovative though with the gameplay. It would be quit disheartening if the story is a recycled mess.

I really wouldn't care about the story for a game like that. It would be fun enough to just be able to play with that gun.

I would absolutely love to have a 32 person game of that going. I think everyone with a gun could get too chaotic, though due to the general nature of FPS, that gametype should exist. I think it would be more fun to have teams organized into squads (BF2-style), with the squadleader having the Portal gun-thing.

"Hey Jim, we need you to hit that switch over there. But then the rest of us need to cover you from this nearby tower." *sends one squad member to the objective and the others to the tower*

Sweet!

what i think it would be fun is that a MP session of this can get REALLY funny... i mean... with 2 people you can actually surround someone with portals, making a indestructible prison!

Ogianres 07-22-2006 09:02 PM

Apparently some college students made this game and then they all got hired for Portal.

If your lucky you will get the one guy that will not call you a shitcock, instead they will just call you a queer.

If that thing comes out for the Wii I'm buying it. Twice. Covered in jam.

Counter-attack! The people who do that are rather high, or little kids that don't even know what a shitcock is, or a queer <.<

Narbacular Drop is bitchin. Eventually you learn these little loopholes and tricks to actually skip over most of the levels and stuffz.

A must!
