TMNT Movie!?

Oh yes they did.

First Transformers, then this? The year 2007 shall henceforth be known as "The Year the Geeks Strike Back," or something cooler.

Honestly, a 100% CG TMNT movie? About freakin' time, I say.

More details to come as I find them.

No. while I agree one based on the continuity of the new toon would rock. One done in CG would'nt. I think of a TMNT movie the way I think of a godzilla movie.. I want some poor bastard sweating in a costume for it to work.

MFD 07-22-2006 11:43 PM

I disagree. CGI's fine by me. I mean, we're at the point where there were actually reviewers who thought Bill Nighy was sweating in a costume in Dead Man's Chest.

Mike McC 07-22-2006 11:50 PM

The original TMNT cartoon was good. Why? Because it didn't really try. It instead seemed to revel in it's own glorious cheesiness, creating the ultimate in campy entertainment.

This seems like it might have some humor, but without the camp, it's a no go.

Also, I just want traditional animation again in a movie. Is that too much to ask?

Also, fuck Quicktime. Fuck it so hard that Myst will feel it.

Fifthfiend 07-22-2006 11:51 PM

Oh yeah, CGI Ninja Turtles are gonna be awesome!

Like, you remember when they had CGI Yoda?

And it was totally awesome?

CGI Turtles are going to be just that awesome!

Chipper173 07-23-2006 12:10 AM

Insert obligatory joke about Vanilla Ice and the Ninja Rap here.

Intern Nin 07-23-2006 12:49 AM

About Fucking Time! I have been waiting thirteen years for a good TMNT to come out. I really hope that this movie and the Transformers movie turn out to be awesome. Also, GO NINJA! GO NINJA! GO NINJA! GO GO!

PraetorZorak 07-23-2006 12:57 AM

Mixed expectations...though at least THAT movie isn't directed by Michael Bay :/

RickZarber 07-23-2006 12:28 PM

Considering they've been trying to make this movie since before the Turtles made their comeback with the new cartoon, I'd say it's about damn time. I am disappointed that they've apparently gone the slapstick-humor route though. Originally, the new movie was suppose to be a gritty PG-13 adaptation of the original comics. Now that the Turtles are popular with a new generation, I guess they can't do that, and I guess I'm okay with that on some level. Just as long as they don't dumb it down. The original movie managed to take the humor of the cartoon and keep a relatively dark mood without dumbing things down...

MFD 07-23-2006 02:13 PM

It can still be gritty, but all good stories have comdey mixed with tragedy, or tragedy mixed with comedy.

Death by Stabbing 07-23-2006 02:46 PM

Did anyone even watch the 3rd Ninja Turtles movie? weren't they in Japan or something?...Let's just hope that they don't try to come up with a new origin for the turtles...why do they always feel the need to change origins in movies?

Mirai Gen 07-23-2006 03:05 PM

OH HAPPY DAY!

God damn I'm going to love 07. Transformers, then TMNT? Hell yes!

No, like, you guys don't understand. I have boxes of 1990s and 1980s printed Ninja Turtles toys. This is a godsend to me.

The original movie was something of the pinnacle of the TMNT area, something they somehow fucked up in TMNT2: Secret of the Ooze and TMNT3: Why The Fuck Did We Make This Shitty Movie.

The fact that it's all in CG could be somewhat bad, however. It makes it difficult for me to believe they'll focus in on the 'serious' plot development behind Splinter, the Turtles, Shredder, and whoever else they're putting in on Team Evil. However, if the trailer proves anything, it's going to have pretty awesome combat sequences.

And, well, the original movie Shredder was a complete badass.

Also; Only in theatres? Does this mean I can't own this movie eventually?

MFD 07-23-2006 03:33 PM

You can't own it on 03/30/07. On that date, it will be only in theatres. That's usual language, as far as I know.

We'll see about the CGI. We need to see April and Casey before we'll know whether or not the CGI is good enough.

OH DEAR GOD

Casey had better fucking be in this movie.

That was the only thing that kept the second movie from being perfectly good.

Well, that and Vanilla Ice.

Wait didn't they travel through sapce time or something in the Third Movie, to the time of Samurai in Japan. It doesn't matter that movie sucked ass.

And goddamn it I want the turtle rap to play at some point. Like just one random scene in the movie where there is random street guy X listening to it on a boombox. Cause every random street guy needs a boombox. Similar to what they did in Spiderman 2 when he's walking out of the theatre. But not song by that godawful woman.

P-Sleazy 07-23-2006 05:19 PM

ahhh goood ole Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles...What more could you ask for in a geek movie title? You got your Teenagers who fuck stuff up, your mutants who are fucked up in themselves, Ninja's who, like the name describes, are ninja's, And Turtles, which are slow as hell on all fours and completely negate the ninjainess. I'm Sold.:p

PyrosNine 07-23-2006 05:20 PM

The first TMNT movie was the first movie I have ever owned, and I still cherish it to this day, despite having to get it repaired or replaced because time hasn't been kind.

It seemed to me to be the perfect movie, and as I grew older I found more and more to like about the movie as my intellect grew to understand more of it other than "turtleninjas fighting ninjas". It wasn't some rushed story like alot of what's showing now too.

But now, when the industry's in the can and can't seem to think up anything original or new to save their lives, they decided to dredge it up yet again and "improve upon it"

The fools! You cannot improve upon PERFECTION! (Unless of course they were to improve upon TMNT 2 and 3....and the Turtle Rap. Have Eminem do it.)

If the new movie's tied to the current cartoon series, I will hate it. I have never liked the new series and would always switch to whatever was on KidsWb saturday morning.

Also, no one did Casey better than the guy in first Movie, and no one will.

NO ONE!

MFD 07-23-2006 05:51 PM

Not even the guy who voiced Raiden (according to IMDb)?

Daimo Mac, The Blue Light of Hope 07-23-2006 08:36 PM

Can I get a Hell Yeah?

Mirai Gen 07-24-2006 02:47 AM

Not only did Casey's current actor do that, but he also was Axel in Kingdom Hearts II, which, well, kind of makes it all okay.

Grandmaster_Skweeb 07-24-2006 03:07 AM

Despite being raised on TMNT I will watch this with an open mind unplagued by bias. After seeing it I will then post my thoughts. Yes.

8-Bit Idiot 07-24-2006 11:38 PM

If this movie comes out, I just hope they act more like ninjas than fucking cartoon characters. I want BLOOD!!!! Fuck the little brats and the current generation TMNT. Make it for the older fans who remember the good ol' days. Those turtles better use their weapons for slicing limbs, organs, and pizza.

And for god's sake, don't add this joke!

Solid Snake 07-25-2006 12:03 AM

You see, I'd rather have a childish, immature, campy TMNT movie than a gritty, realistic tragic TMNT movie; in that sense I guess I'm asking for the opposite of what most of you want.

You're right, you are asking for the complete opposite.

And I'd like an explanation why you want some cheezy-ass movie, while we're at it. Did you not see TMNT1?

You remind me of this. And I don't mean that in a good way. ;)

I mean, I want it dark too, but not like that. I'm talking first-movie dark. Gritty and real, but still with some fucking heart and light moments.

And I could be wrong here, but wasn't the pizza-eating an invention of the first cartoon?

I saw it and I liked it. I just liked the first two seasons of TMNT, complete with their ridiculous campy humor, better. To me the Turtles have always been more about outrageous comedy than epic, tragic storylines or gritty street battles. But that's because I grew up on the original TV show and not the movies.

BTW, it has been confirmed that April O'Neill, Splinter and Casey Jones will be in this movie. Intriguingly, Shredder has not been confirmed just yet, and it seems like there will be at least one other central villain in the storyline. (Some guy named Max Winters.)

Darth SS 07-25-2006 10:35 PM

Really, all I want in a TMNT movie?

I want them to actually be god-damn ninja.

None of this "Here's a flashy fight scene with swords, and now, look! They hopped across rooftops! They're totally ninja!" crap
