Anyone notice a pattern in the Fiend fights?
 

I see five or so similar characteristics in the fight against Lich and Kary:

1. Presence of special items (Armoire of Invincibility, Bag of Holding).

2. Drastic character changes (BM killed and made lord of Hell, BB permanently killed off).

3. Fighter berserks (against Lich after he killes BM, against Kary after he creates sword-chucks).

4. Thief steals the Orb both times.

5. Red Mage flails around giving stupid plans.

I think that the first two things might not be so present in the fight against Kraken. However, maybe RM will have a near-death experience, and meet Megahedron.

You know I swear I opened this thread thinking oh lord, another Goddamn "z0MG somebody gonna die!" post.

It was actually rather a pleasant surprise to see someone actually trying to look a step past that.

The Megahedron thing'd probably be cool, that's one dangling plot-thread I'm just dying to see picked up.

... On a side note: you know I always kinda figured one of the fringe benefits to Moderacy would be Clevinger actually lets you in on the Great 8-Bit Theater Master Plan.

There's a plan?!?! That's about the last thing I expected 8-Bit Theater to have. Besides rampant porn and Communism. Which havn't happened yet, thank God.

On 5: Since when has RM not flailed around making stupid plans?

ya a few of those are pretty normal occurances especcially 4 and 5 it may not have been the orb theif strole but he does steal frequently. he's a theif ya know

You forget, they're in the Airsub. That's gotta count for something.

I think the point is that he steals it every time. They don't kill the fiend and then go and pick it up off of its pedestal, thye steal it and the fiend-killing happens because that's how they get out. ;)

Also, there’s tons of Communism. The government decides what’s best for us as a general consensus with a few overall powerful people, but with equally influential lower cast officials?

NPF is all about Communism and well worded pronz.

Back on topic... The parallels are there, but you can half do that with just about any plot arc with some other plot arc at one point. These just seem so much more important because it's in line with the main FF storyline.

Well they are usually less stupid and more...good during fiend fights and boss battles.

For random tasks, he overthinks everything.

I think the airsub counts for a lot. I would imagine that putting the whole thing in an underwater environment means the Kraken fight will give Brian a few unique headaches and storytelling opportunities that would not exist above the foamy waves.

Well, that is about how I'd do battle with this constellation of characters. But now that you mention it, there's a distinct lack of Black Mage blasting the shit out of things and/or people during those battles.
