What do Elvis and Catherine the Great both have in common?
They both died on the shitter! Well, Catherine actually died two days later, but it was the stroke she had on the toilet that killed her. And I think Legendary status is one of those things that no matter what definition you use, it's the wrong one, but if I were to try to get close, I would say it's around when everybody agrees you're legendary. |

I think he simply didn't read the thread, just the title and felt he had to make a contribution.

I don't even know what the point of that was supposed to be. PS: In no way should that be construed as an invitation to explain what the point of that was supposed to be. |
Being legendary is simply being or doing something that sets you above common people.
The Elephant man became famous for having serious birth defects in a conformist society. Elvis became legendary by being a very successful Rock & Roll singer, dieing from his own shit (As was eloquently put), and supposedly returning from the dead. Jack The Ripper became legendary for killing a lot of people. Bonnie and Clyde became legendary for being successful robbers, and killing a lot of people. Secretskull became legendary for... Wait nevermind. In short, people who are legendary; are people who have done/were born as something that aroused enough interest, that people talked of it, and told their children about it. |
Biggest part I think is not the fame (as one there are quite esoteric legends, who may not be widely known but once you know what they have done, there really isn't any other title for them) but it is rather the myths and stories that surround them. Stuff that may or may not be true but still defy belief.
Think about it, Catherine the Great had that horse story(untrue but widely believed), Elvis had the deepfried peanut butter sandwiches and the golden crapper(sandwiches true, unsure about the toilet),the Spartans are legendary soldiers for holding Thermopoli pass despite hundreds to one odds and Don Bradman is a legend in the cricketing world for having a batting average nearly double his closest challenger(99.9 versus roughly 52). That's what I think makes a legend, doing things that people will not believe are true without proof, and will leave them in awe, terror or disgust after getting that proof. Of course the other way to be legendary is to have between 350 and 700 karma on GameFAQs, like me. |
