Disgaea?
So what do you guys think of "Disgaea: the Hour of Darkness"? I know some aspects of it are almost a direct copy of FFT, however there are more than enough extra additions to make it easily worth playing a few times (especially since the lvl cap of 9999 isn't that easy to get to, seems so at the beginning but it takes more than simply leveling to beat the game, although you can certainly get very far with simply leveling). Tell me what you think.

The only thing cloned from FFT is the fact that it's a turn-based tactical strategy game. Skill learning, class changes, and unique characters are all handled almost (but not quite) completely differently than they were in FFT. And don't even get me STARTED on the plot. "Screw revenge, I'm gonna conquer the Underworld because I can!"
The battle system is also near-completely different. Your entire team gets its turn at the same time, and you're practically encouraged to be completely unfair and exploit the system's loopholes for your own purposes. (This is completely in character, since you're a lanky, brattish little demon prince instead of the Standard Issue Tormented Hero(TM).) You can powerlevel your equipment. You can bribe the Underworld's ruling politicians with chewed gum, and it will WORK. If it doesn't, you can go right ahead and beat the living hell out of them with almost NO REPERCUSSIONS. Disgaea is a completely different experience than FFT. You don't struggle for survival, you just have fun with it. |

I've SO wanted to play it, but haven't been able to... |
I've been playing Disgaea for a while now and I can honestly say that it does kick many an ass. If anything the odd penguins that say dood, the strange storyline that let's you know that even demons/devils with anime quirkiness can still be as fun as the regular characters.

Disgaea...
If you don't have it, get it. Now. Drop everything you're doing and run out and buy it. That game is just so awesome! I could go on for pages and pages about why I like it... but I'd rather sum it up in three words: Buy It Now. |
I've been wanting to play it myself for a while. But alas (yes, copying your writing -_-), Harvest Moon, FireEmblem and my yet to be perchased Castlevania game are in the way...
I will get to it though. Everything I have seen looks WICKED! |
Yet another one of those games I keep quietly hoping the local Blockbuster will buy so I can have a chance to rent it.
Bugger all. Ten copies of that L.A. game-thingy, but not one of Disgaea... |
Disgaea is the game you shove in the faces of people who think RPG's suck to bring them over. It's a gateway game. FF7 also seems to have this same effect on non-RPG gamers. Too bad there aren't enough copies of Disgaea to go around...

Hmmm... I've been hearing Disgaea is good.. but this...
*pulls out her Christmas list, scribbles out other games and writes in Disgaea* Now to just pray I can get a copy >_> *knows back home they sold out CONSTANTLY* |
