Will this case finally be solved?
Pending processes yet to be completed in our judicial system, it appears that the mystery killer has finally been apprehended.
This case has been going on for ages, and I hope it's finally coming to a close, regardless of how long those two-bit tabloids will continue to exploit it. I say it's a pity the victim's mother didn't live long enough to see justice finally happening. My thoughts: What took so long? And where will an impartial jury be found? I'm not sure there's anyone who hasn't heard of or become jaded by the media exposure over this case. Your thoughts? EDIT: Further information and timelines have been released. |
Considering this is the first I heard about JonBenet Ramsey....
Someone want to fill me on the details? |
JonBenet Ramsey was a 6-year-old beauty pageant queen, who apparently was making quite a name for herself. Anyway, during christmas of 96, I believe it was, she was murdered, and her/her family's story has been cheap supermarket tabloid fodder ever since.
Here's a bit more information, in case, by some miracle, you haven't heard of this. |
Well, Althane appears to lack bias, and he was the first reply...
Anyway, I didn't hear a LOT about this case in Canada, but we do get CNN and such, so I have memories of it. For what took so long...well, if this guy was in Thailand, it sounds like he was trying to make himself difficult to locate. My geography isn't great, but it's far away from Colorado. Since we don't know the investigative circumstances of the case, I don't think any of us can comment on the speed of the process (and have an informed opinion). The murderer appears to be confessing, so I to hope he gets an impartial jury. This sounds like one of those cases that could have become so popular he'll get the death penalty (er, do they have that in Colorado? It's state-based right? :P) because of public outcry. As opposed to a similar case that didn't explode in popularity, where he would get a life sentence. |
Under 18 man, can't do jury duty. :P
Actually, I'm pretty biased. I mean, murdering a child. That's cold. That's just... yeah. Y'know, anyone else here read Dominic Deegan? Yeah, sending them to a deminsional void where they get tentacle raped sounds... good. :P But, why did he do it, really? I mean, from what I've been able to find (Drudge Report has actually had some good stuff), he sounded like he was creepy-love with her. o.O |
It will take a while to work out. This is the kind of high profile case some people claim just to take credit for it in history books.
Trial should be interesting though. |
Actually, I think the trial will be fairly short, given that the guy has confessed on national television. A not guilty plea at this point would just be a waste of time. Not saying that it couldn't happen. We currently have a couple in the area in which I currently reside who apparently confessed during interrogation but are now each offering not guilty pleas for the respective crimes of child molestation (father) and arson and two counts of murder in the first degree (mother) in the case of the deaths of their two children.
Gotta love our judicial system. |
Nothing is always as it seems. Confessions can be forced out of you by the police. On the subject of child molestation, there's the creche phenomenon. I noticed it was thrown out there. Kids were convinced that they were being molested either by coaching or imitating the others who had without realizing what they were doing, sort of like the South Park episode. Adults could also be pressured to wrongly confess. We can't be sure if it's the case with this guy. But false accusations shouldn't be new to the Ramsey parents. With them in mind, you never want to judge people by TV.

Moved to General because I refuse to pretend that this is seriously something important.
We might as well start doing Discussion threads on what Jessica's going to do now that Nick is dating somebody new, who as it turns out is Angelina Jolie who he stole from Brad Pitt who went running back to Jennifer, or whatever. |
Weren't these the two South Park ripped the shit out of in the Butters episode?
It was something like Butters' dad yelling "murderer!" at them for about a minute while occaisionally panning to OJ and that Senator who killed his intern wasn't it? So given that they based that episode on it, I assume the original media circus must have been ridiculous. And is it just me or is the guy they arrested the stereotype of super creepy murderer, I can almost see him putting on a wig and dress and going all Psycho or Alfred Ashford. That can't help any defence he may make. |
