Voices - not about the colored text bubbles!
There have been 8BT Flash shorts, I know... and, if nobody else, those things pretty much nail exactly what I thought BM would sound like. So, when you read the comics, what sort of voice do you imagine coming from them?
For me... BM: high, nasally; almost "martian"-like; you know, almost like he could say "take me to your leader." RM: could go several ways. On the one hand, he could have that Frasier-esque fake sophistication thing going on; faux upper class New England gentry accent. That's what I hear when I read, "It is impossible that I would be arrogant, as that would be a flaw." Thief: Usual plucky hero trash; see: Locke, Edge, etc; some 20-something male, nondescript. Fighter: Higher pitch than Thief, loud, and poor voice inflection--8 year olds can speak but haven't learned the natural dramatic inflection that language carries. So, every word sounds monotonously excited and enthusiastic. I'm thinking, Chris Farley or Will Farrel Disagreements? Other characters? |
I kind of like BM's original echoey British voice. All of the voices in the flash are perfect except Fighters, but I don't know why. There's just something that seems "not Fighter" about the voice.
|
BM: Somewhat like O'Malley from Red Vs. Blue, with a slight british accent and a mildly hoarse voice
Fighter: Like Caboose, who's quite like Fighter sans Sword obsession Thief: Very mildly nasally, like hero trash as guy above me said. Red MAge: Just like how he is, Nasally and rather annoying. |
The way they sounded at the christmas special. Every single character sounded like i imagend i only thought thiefs voice would be a little less...dramatic.
I think the short flash movies at NG have bad voice acting BM sounds very strange like a handycapped brit with an echo thief kept switching voices and only fighter sounded about right. In short: voices in christmas special all the way. |
I've always see BM to have a voice similar to a friend of mine's; the person speaks with a deep tone of voice, yet his general excitement almost makes up for it, and he comes off as goofy.
Thief I can't put a voice to- If I had to pick, I'd probably put something similar to my voice in when I get bored- impatient and sarcastic, with a tone that really just screams "I don't like you". RM; His voice from the 8-Bit D&D Reenactment thing that's been floating around the internet for I-don't-know-how-long. Except perhaps with a slightly higher voice. As for Fighter... I've always had his voice from the 8-Bit D&D Reenactment thing pegged as his voice. Really, it's just fun to think of his voice being like that ALL THE TIME. |
Fighter - Jack Black
Thief - Cillian Murphy Red Mage - Seth Green Black Mage - Adrian Pasdar White Mage - Rose McGowan Princess Sara - Sara Silverman (a la Way Of The Gun) King Steve - Whoever played "Emperor Fred" on Pizza Cats |
I'm not sure about all of them, but I've recently come to the conclusion that Black Mage should sound like Invader Zim.
|
Naah, Zim doesn't have this "eternally pissed off" vibe. Black Mage should be voiced by Rowan Atkinson. Blackadder, anyone?

I'm with the others that think the animated versions of 8-Bit have sported the finest voices we could ever have, although I liked the White Mage in 8-Bit 4 and 5 better than the one in the Christmas special. |
