RIP Steve Irwin

Poor guy.

Flarecobra 09-03-2006 11:55 PM

Wha? He died? Detail might help some, since no news sites I go to have any mention of him dying.

Toastburner B 09-03-2006 11:59 PM

Hmmm...right now, the CNN.com just has a headline for it:

Quote:

Steve Irwin, Australian TV presenter known as "The Crocodile Hunter," killed in marine accident, news wires report. Details soon.
What qualifies as a "marine accident"? According to the Wikipedia article, it was he was killed by a stingray...but I wouldn't quote that as fact at this moment.

Either way...bummer. I mean, I think we all thought the dude was going to die sooner rather than later...but its kind of surprising it happened.

Satan's Onion 09-03-2006 11:59 PM

Yah, which animal killed him? (Whoops, victim of the ninja there. Sorry.)

Oh.

Oh shit.

Found this.

Quote:

THE Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin, is dead.

He was killed in a freak accident in Cairns, police sources said.

It is understood he was killed by a stingray barb that went through his chest.

He was swimming off the Low Isles at Port Douglas filming an underwater documentary and that's when it occured.

Ambulance officers confirmed they attended a reef fatality this morning at Batt Reef off Port Douglas.

His body is being flown to Cairns.

A Tourism Queensland spokeswoman today said the death was shocking and paid tribute to Irwin's "enormous contribution" to his adopted state.

Louise Yates said it was impossible to quantify how much Mr Irwin had meant to the Queensland tourism industry.

"I don't think we could even estimate how much he brought us through his personality and his profile and his enthusiasm about Queensland," she said.

Poor guy.

I hate to imagine what his wife is going through.

The guy handles crocodiles, and he goes down like that?

No one saw that coming...

EDIT: I can't find the source, get of my back.

All the sites with the information now are cluttering up the search.

I'm too lazy to be going through 20 pages of people saying Steve Irwin is dead.

...

You guys are kidding me, right? You can't tell me that he or anyone close to him wouldn't have been prepared for something like this to happen.

I mean, I'm not trying to be a dick. It's very sad that he died, and I'm sure his family is going through lots of grief. All I'm saying is that this isn't exactly unexpected. I mean, " 'crocodile hunter' get's killed by *gaspandshock!* a wild animal"? Not a big surprise.

Everyone thought he would go down by the jaws of a crocodile, not a sting ray.
